Because ancient Indian state began over 3000 years ago by the establishment of the ruling caste of India [Hindustan]. There was no Bharat at the time, nor Afghanistan, nor Pakistan.

That area is included in the histioriography of ancient India. I have not come across an Afghan from Afghanistan who has a problem with it. The Afghans I met were too friendly with India, they are ignorant of Bharati Hindutva extremism. Indus civilization is part of the history of the land but the rise of the ancient Indian state based on ruling caste coincides with the decline of the Indus civilization. Nobody can read Indus script. South India is later period extension of India.

Afghans were part of greater India, made their homes in today's India. They were Hindustani. For example, Sher Shah Suri was a Bihari Pathan, born in Bihar, buried in Bihar, and he fought for greater Hindustan.

Most Afghans as well as Pashtuns and Baloch belong to a different language family, Afghanistan was majority Parsi and Buddhist with some pockets of Hinduism in the Dardic regions. A lot of my family is between the cities and places between Kandahar and Quetta and Mughals never had control of Kandahar. They tried, but failed.
