Why is South India paying for North India

Dont get me wrongly. I do not question the concept of helping the less developed states but the question to which extent should be asked. Particularly even the more developed states have issues and would need the money for their own programs.

What kind of sacrifice are you talking about? The Empires which saved South India from the Turkic invaders were the Vijayanagar Empire and later the Maratha Empire. So no we are not indebted to them as it does not have anything to do with North Indians

No doubt that southern India would do better on its own. The central Indian government is more concerned with sectarian and regional conflict. They ignored and denied southern India's water crisis this past summer. Instead of subsidizing these northern fools invest in Southern India.

You are actually correct. South India would do way better if they break free from north looters. North is the real region where r@p3 epidemic, communalism, terrorism, looting happens. I have come across many Indian people from Hyderabad and kerala, mostly progressive and forward looking. Mostly northern are racist too hence why their minister said "if we were racist, why would we tolerate black people in the south States", they also live in fills paradise of martial castes are only in North, just check out their army made up mostly from north.

Let us go one step further....Even in a state, some part of a state will be developed and others will not...If they developed part ask flr a separation from the poorer section of the same state, what will be your answer?

Currently Southern Indian states are more developed and doing much better economically than the Northern states which leads to the strange situation that Southern states pay for the development of the Northern states without any gain.

This might seem academic at the moment but the higher population growth rates and migration to richer states, will result in friction. The northern states need a paradigm shift out of the cycle of useless governments. I am a northerner, from delhi.

South Indian states are on the shores that benefit from the international trade while North Indian states which are mostly landlocked depend on these coastal regions. That's why states like Gujarat and Maharashtra fare better on average. While landlocked states like UP, Bihar, J&K are worst. Climate also adds to the issues.

North Indian states need to decongest and make more planned cities. That's the only way they can develop.

If you visit india, you will understand why it's still together, inspite of so many differences. I have been traveling in the last few months , NE and Srinagar. People who you would normally associate with being different from the mainstream.All normal and Indian. South Indians are all over India, including in Delhi. They are not considered different. People like south Indians. They are considered stable as compared to north Indians.The media is unnecessarily sensationalist.

It's fairly simple - the North Indian states have not done enough to move from an agrarian economy. At the onset of independence, Bombay and Calcutta were competing to be the premier commercial capital of the country. Today I doubt Calcutta even makes the top 10 in India - thanks to a prolonged Communist rule.

From auto manufacturing to IT, the southern states invested in infrastructure, education and attracting foreign investment. The North could be least bothered. Maharashtra and Gujarat have always had an enterprising community and diligent, hard working people.

If the Northern states don't pull up their socks, the gap is only going to widen.
