Why is China investing more in Iran than Pakistan?

China is investing far more in Pakistan. How much does a UNSC veto cost? How much does FATF cover cost? How much does co-development of an advanced jet cost? CPEC is one facet of the strategic partnership we have with China. Iran is simply giving oil for investment bc no one can buy their oil otherwise.

I don’t have any data, just assuming OP is somewhat correct.

Iranians might have political differences , but they are much more united, when it comes to matter of national interest , in Pakistan we have people like maryam bibi,

OMG! you don't know much about Iran then. son of the current supreme leader alone stole nearly 2 billion dollars, when President Ahmedinijad tried to investigate he was ousted and blacklisted for life from holding office.

🤫🤫

Let them live in this illusion that only Pakistan is mismanaged. Iran, China, US all have tales of corruption and mismanagement. Corruption by IRGC is legendary--they literally take over private enterprises that fail to pay protection money. Even large telecom companies are not safe from this. You want to import a USD 100 piece of equipment? Ok no problem. Just give us our USD 200 fee first. EVERYTHING is "taxed".

These fanboys have no idea how bad they have it there.

North Korea, Venezuela, Russia are also Anti American
Then why only in Iran not in N. Korea, Venezuela?
So Russia needs Chinese aid? Others also get support from China but Iran is hyper active against USA. NK is all about experimenting toys and squeezing their own populace

We have ourselves erased our identity, Allah had given us the Indus Valley civilization to bond the nation but we preferred religious tones.

True. My Iranian friend always complains about the corruption and wealth of people in power. I think there is social media group about Rich Kids of Tehran or something where families of wealthy politicians show off their wealth

If china is investing in Iran at-least we should not be unhappy. Iran is not a threat to Pakistan. Plus China will secure more export orders from Iran from now/near future.

Countries getting under the Chinese(+ veto) umbrella will burn many threats before knocking their doors.

Pakistan geostrategically is a Hotspot and anyone would try to have her in own block.

Pakistan provides land route to Central Asia and China. It is important for the Chinese.

But the constant attack on Chinese in Pakistan is a threat to their investment.

One cannot completely claim it is because of oil, it maybe a reason, but Pakistan has the workforce instead.

Most important Factor is Safety and stability.

China investing in Iran $280 billion to $400 billion in Iran, while in Pakistan only $65 billion to $70 billion. While it can invest in Railway and Fiber Internet projects in all over the country..

{Please refrain from anti irani, sectarian and propaganda discussion, but healthy discussion}

a specific number of how much will China invest in Iran was never mentioned in the leaked draft of the investment agreement.

China-Iran Relations: The Myth of Massive Investment

The text of the agreement has not yet emerged, and likely will not be published, so all analysis must be tempered with caution. However, a draft of the agreement leaked last summer, and it is unlikely the text substantially changed in the intervening six months. Furthermore, multiple outlets report that their sources have said there is little changed from the leaked agreement. What can be said about the deal based on this leaked draft?

No Specific Commitments, No $400 Billion Investment

First off, nowhere in the text of this or any other official document or pronouncement is any numerical figure mentioned.
There are also no provisions whatsoever for the sale of islands, military bases, occupation, or anything that would sustain the other alarmist claims. This has been thoroughly debunked by multiple scholars, and a quick glance at the text will confirm their claims. While the draft itself appears to be genuine, the claims of $400 billion of Chinese investment and massive military concessions can be traced to a poorly sourced Petroleum Economy article from 2019, which has since been taken offline.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said the day after that the China-Iran Strategic Comprehensive Agreementneither includes any quantitative, specific contracts and goals nor targets any third party, and will provide a general framework for China-Iran cooperation going forward.”

The same day, Reza Zabib, head of East Asia at Iran Foreign Ministry, called the agreement a “non-binding document.” In response to why the text has not been published, he claimed that “there is a legal requirement to publish agreements; however, the publication of non-binding documents is not common.”

Both sides have now admitted that the plan contains no “quantitative, specific contracts” and is a “non-binding document.” In my view, this confirms what was signed was little changed from the leaked agreement last summer. The agreement can best be described as an aspirational document. It is a signal that Iran may grow closer to China, but not a guarantee. It provides no methods for enforcement, measurable goals, or specific programs.

just to be clear I'm not denying or confirming any figure, I'm just saying there has been no reliable source that mentioned a numerical figure of how much China will invest in Iran, and the leaked agreement doesn't mention any figure.
However with all that said we do know that China does buy oil from Iran in exchange for Chinese goods and services, and over the course of several decades the value of the Iranian oil purchased will obviously exceed 280$ billion (it would be rather weird if it didn't). And while it's admirable that China continues to buy oil from Iran not giving a flying F about US sanctions however aside from the US dollar probably not being used in these transaction between China and Iran there is nothing special or extraordinary about this agreement when compared to how other countries buy oil, it is meaningless to try to inflate the value Iranian oil sold buy counting the total sold over decades, I mean Iraq sells 70$ billion worth of oil each year and other GCC countries sell much more, 70$ billion over say 2 decades would equal 1.4 trillion dollars, does that mean that Iraq will become a trillion dollar economy? No it does not.

Internal security is huge reason. Iran export terrorism to Pakistan but get nothing in return. We need to adopt Afghan policy to take revenge of killing of 9 Chinese engineers by Irani suicide bombers.

Other is obvious, Iran have world biggest reserves of gas and oil. While Pakistan is dependent on foreign remittances and exports to pay back to China.

When you read quotes like this, you get doubtful of millions of Pakistanis' intelligence.

On a side note which deserves a seperate thread, the reason Pakistan and Iran cannot get along is that Pakistan has been in American block for decades. This alignment has had its consequences on Pakistani internal security and Foreign Policy.
On the other hand Iran trying to keep its independence has been working with everyone else independently causing alignment with free nations such as Syria, Russia, former Libya, China, North Korea, etc.

This is a huge reason for fked up relations between Iran and Pakistan for whatever reason. The emotional Foreign Policy that Pakistan has been persuing as a result of shaky relations with Arab fkholes and American backstabbers, has left a huge gap in Iran Pakistan relations from economic to political areas.

Chinese presence in Pakistan is a blessing for iran and Iranians as an independent nation. It will have long term Effects such as giving Pakistan the power and capability of standing on own feet.

All in all, the people that waged economic and political war on China are in no way happy about Chinese Pakistani cooperation. East of Pakistan is safe, the area that was given up to Arabs in west of the country needs Pakistani army attention.

The size of investment is related to the economic size of Iran and Pakistan. China's investment in cpec is sustained and is not affected by international political changes. The relationship between China and Pakistan will not change in any way. China hopes that Asia will be peaceful and stable. Peace and stability are in the interests of all countries.
All China's foreign policies must be conducive to peace and stability in Asia.
