Why is Asad Umar not accepting Energy ministry offered to him by Imran Khan

Current power and energy minister, grandson of Ayub managed to recover 51 billion rupees from defaulter companies in just 8 months.

I don't know why he wasn't made the Finance minister. He did good in Musharaff era too

Taking your point of view, and running with it, Asad was not an economist either.
Here you go mate. Wrong person for wrong job. He is just a big mouth, nothing more than that.
You cannot run ministries by jibes and quick mouth. You need to get down with the nitty gritty of it, as soon as possible.

Asad is simply a Marketing MBA, for heaven sake always remember this.
How many Marketing MBA have moved to the position of Head of a massive company like "Engro"!!
Would an MBA from poor family, no matter how talented and brilliant he is academically, reach that position!!
I doubt it. Asad is where he is because he is son of General Umer, period.
Connections at all the right places.

Completely agree.

Some people are making Asad Umar to be some genius economist when he was not. He was doing terrible and IK realised that.

If he didn't have such a big ego, he would've accepted another ministry if he was so talented.

Running a company is different than running a country's finances.

.
He said in Kashif Abbasi show that his expertise is in finance and he would be out of his depth in any other ministry. PTI lost a gem.

Ch*tiapay ka decision by Khan.
I believe in Imran Khan, and wouldn't rush to judge him over this matter. Ministers need to perform or go home.

Asad Umar did not provide a roadmap for how to address Pakistan's economic situation. Going to IMF? No wait, going to KSA. Going to IMF? No wait, going to China. Going to IMF? No wait, going to UAE. Not going to IMF. Going to IMF.

You cannot behave like that and keep observers in a limbo for long. Uncertainty is never good for business.

You cannot play with IMF like that and get away with it. This is serious matter.

Easily said then done..... why are we in this financial situation? What about the finance minister of last 4 governments? Were they donkey? Did they not know how to fix the economy? you claim that Asad Umar didn’t know about economy, and you expect him to fix the f*up last 30 years? Bravo Bravo

Would you be willing to apply similar standards to PMIK too?

May be it is time to conclude that the underlying weaknesses of the economy are beyond one man or government to fix?

Do you think a Prime Minister is exempt from judgement? :-)

Imran Khan have 5 straight years to improve the situation of Pakistan, and he should be given this much time to say the least. It would be unwise to expect miracles from him in under a year or two. If a minister is not up to the task, Prime Minister is supposed to take notice and do something about it.

I pointed out the issue of Asad Umar - he created uncertainty for businesses and potential investors with his lack of roadmap and mixed signals in relation to how to proceed. I get the impression that IMF have a hand in his removal.

Well, Asad Umar worked under direction from PMIK, to implement policy decisions according to PMIK's agenda, and in the end, even if your impression is correct, it was PMIK who removed him. I reckon PMIK is the responsible individual here, since the buck must stop with him. Similarly, all credit would go to PMIK if the results are laudable, right?

Besides, I have maintained all along he deserves to be judged for his overall performance over his entire term. I can wait.

The same argument can be used for previous governments. They had to fix f*up of previous 25 years and previous 20 years and so on.

Another favorite argument of PTI brigade is the previous government was corrupt and current isn't. Shouldn't economy move towards positive now that there aren't any corrupts destroying it?

AU was clueless on how to fix the problem and was making things worse for everyone.

We're going to IMF, no we're good and can do without IMF, oh no economy is bad and we need IMF....

Then bringing the tax amnesty scheme to protect the very people that destroyed this economy.

It’s not a one man job. It’s the responsibility of whole government.
Why FBR is not fixed?

Lots of arguments can be made.... IK himself said that we may not have to go to IMF. From they day 1st I said we have to go to IMF.

Asad is not like previous financial ministers. Patching the economy will take us back IMF after 5 years. There is nothing wrong in thinking outside the box and finding alternative ways and trying to create a sustainable economy.

Chinese showed as the back when they could have given us the money and allowed our export products bigger market share in China. China maybe a friendly country but they have worst businessman mentality but we cannot blame China for taking a risk on Pakistan. Textile city is great example of how our politicians took the money from foreign investors and they deal went south and investors lost money.

Corrupt mafia may not be in government but you can find them in opposition and they will not allow any real change. the system itself is corrupt and assembly is not passing any laws that can bring actual changes in current system. In current circumstances, Democracy is incapable of bring any real changes.

As the leader, it is up to PMIK to fix FBR. The buck stops with him during his term in office.

I am tired of this excuse. How many laws PTI tried to pass that were rejected by opposition? Zero.

So how can people say Assembly isn't allowing bills to pass. There's zero efforts on PTI side. And if there was any truth to this argument, PTI should've passed many laws and brought change in KPK where they own the assembly?

This is without a doubt that previous governments were corrupt but that doesn't really excuse AU incompetence, does it?

IK isn't an economist, he only said what was told to him ie we don't need IMF. Just like i am clueless and believed them that we don't. But then we did. Then we didn't. Imagine what that did to the business community?

You also didn't defend the tax amnesty scheme? I wasn't a fan of AU but when he introduced that scheme, i knew there's something fishy. How can he even think about bringing it.

On one hand, the narrative is AU is fighting against a strong mafia then he brings this scheme to protect the same mafia.

Do you want to hear what AU and IK used to say about tax amnesty scheme?

So we all know Asad Umar has resigned from Finance ministry. It is in the news that he has been offered Energy ministry by Imran Khan as a replacement. But so far media is reporting that Asad Umar has refused to take up the energy ministry. Why is he doing so. I think he is a qualified person to run the energy ministry and it is an important ministry. Isn't it childish on part of Asad umar to refuse transfer to another ministry, is it a matter of ego in his case because if he wants to serve the country then he can still serve the country by running energy ministry.
It is simple first he got lot of criticism because of economic condition and his shortcoming to overcome crisis and now summer is going to hit Pakistan and we don not have plans to build new power projects...this year shortfall of electricity if going to be huge so why the hell he again wants to became punching bag.

The way things are going reminds me a lot of the ppp government of 2008. It was a fan favourite party from which people expected a lot. However failure after failure, all talk and no result, not to mention the constant cover up lies, forced the people to vote them out.

If khan doesn’t realise that he’s wasted 8 month of his time experimenting on our economy with only negative results, then his party’s fate would not be any different from ganjas and ppp.

It’s our country we are talking about here not a parchoon ki dukaan ke loss ki Khair hai. We need experienced people who actually have a plan not incompetent wannabes. I wouldn’t even keep a manager at my business who doesn’t have the relevant experience and here khan gave an entire finance ministry to a man who evidently destroyed it.
I mean you can’t just make good by changing the person after he’s done so much damage. You need to realise your mistake change your approach.

.
Why should he? He was kicked out and is in disgrace. He is a man of honour and self-respect; why would he demote himself from finance ministry, which is only second to prime ministry, to something less and let his subordinates become his bosses?

How do you face others when you're fired from a job? Look at Amir Kiyani, who is hiding even from his close friends and not attending any calls.

He destroyed nothing. When he came he found an economy on a verge of collapse. He staved off the imminent default and brought down the CAD significantly. His failure is more of an Imran Khan's failure. IK just couldn't establish the image of his govt. as a business friendly govt. like Nawaz Sharif did. Despite giving so much relief to the business community in their January mini budget, the businessmen just kept hoarding their wealth in homes and there was no internal investment going on. AU did everything in his power, but it became a perception problem. Once he started talking about elite-capture, he was shown the door.

Of course, with the return of an experienced person like Hafeez Sheikh confidence will restore, but do not for a second think things will be rosy, there are already talks of 600b additional taxes in budget, la'anti awaam will get no relief.

Sir the economy was much worse when the ppp goons come to power. The economy had crashed and the stock exchange was at zero points just to give you an idea. Not to mention the country was in a full fledge state of war۔
So I belive this excuse is old now. People know better.
