first of all, we already have fusion power. it's not controlled but it's there, they are called H-bombs and they certainly release far more energy than we put into them

and yes the plasma would be millions of degrees

however, nobody is planning on containing it by "touching it" all plans call for containment via magnetic fields, ie: no touching required. and yes current containment technologies are not 100% leak proof thus over time the walls do degrade, but then i don't recall any technology that is perfect from the get go. the next hottest thing(pun intended) is a stellarator design which uses far more complex magnetic fields to contain the plasma, and on paper it's better than the current Tokamak design, but wasn't used before because of the complex design, but we can now overcome that problem due to better industry and the existence of massively powerful supercomputers.

Materials and technolgy evolve over time and there is no guarantee that we can't come up with something to contain the energy produced by fusion.

Instead of being skeptical, we could look at it the best way to power the Earth's population in the most efficient and eonomical way possible.

There are limits to everything. Humans cannot terraform Mars and never will. Humans also cannot jump from Earth to the moon either. Some things are simply physically impossible to accomplish.

secondly, temperature in excess of 500 million degrees have already be achieved in labs, DECADES AGO, we're well into TRILLIONS of degrees now

The scientific research of fusion technology may not get the results in the short term.

It may not get the required results yet however the research will tell us what works and what does not work which will eventually lead to a path breaking discovery.
