Why does the UK give aid to India?

The 17% figure was endorsed by World Bank....

Just to clarify, WB merely collated the data provided by GoP. The source of such data is always the local government and is not generated by WB, because it is impossible to do so.

Also, if you accept that data was fudged by PPP for their political interest, you also lay bare the possibility that data could also be fudged by Musharraf regime for their political interest as well.

While several countries receive aid from UK and other donors, hence India is no exception since according to a survey report, it has more poverty than Africa.

BBC News - 'More poor' in India than Africa

India also has more rich than Africa but Indian govt is not asking for any aid. They will give it to various NGOs. Our govt don't take any aid in the name of assistance, we don't ask for free oil, we don't ask for free weapons. I think even during natural calamities Indian govt didn't ask for any aid, not even during Tsunami.

I didn't claim that the data was generated by WB. That's why I used the word 'endorsed'. It was endorsed by WB, i.e. WB said that this is the poverty rate. If it didn't agree that was the poverty rate, it wouldn't have done so. The same hasn't happened in the figures posted by some Indians.

Now as for Musharraf fudging figures, his government was a million times less corrupt and honest than this government. Remember, this rate was endorsed by WB.

It was discussed a while back in the economic forum. There was an article on this as well.

In addition to that, they're suggesting that poverty went up by around 19% (from 17% to 36%) in just around 6-8 months. The 17% figure was endorsed by World Bank, whereas these figures weren't - it came from a panel employed by PPP government.

Well, I hope it is lower. I derive no pleasure from a higher Pakistani poverty.

So you're another one with double standards - Pakistanis should not post about India's problems but Indians should be free to post about Pakistan's problem. This is the hypocrisy that some of you guys show. Indians all the time post about Pakistan's problems, but my word if someone posts about India's problems, there's almost like a big campaign to either divert from the topic and/or tell others to worry about their own issues. Why don't you take your own advice too, then? Worry about the problems in your own country. It's not like people in your country are living a much better life.

I hope people stop becoming sadist and enjoy each others' poverty. But if that is what you chose to do, I couldn't care less.

It is not our poverty that effects each other. It is the policies.

I don't think you do, but there are plenty who enjoy from suffering of other people.

Yes, good post. Too much of taking pleasure from other people's suffering on both sides.

Oh goodness me, I can't imagine how long it'd have taken you to dig that up. Now you just need to look at their definition of poverty. They're using some other definition. That's why they're calling it "Human Poverty Index".

Here's that page.

Human Development Report 2009 - Human Poverty Index (HPI-1) value (%)

The other page I discussed with you in the other topic, which showed the real poverty rate.

Also, the fact that you're hell bent on proving that Pakistan has a higher poverty rate than India shows that you derive pleasure out of other's suffering.
