There are Indian states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat or Tamil Nadu that are more
developed than Indian states like Bihar, Rajasthan or Odisha. But what is the main reason for the
large economic gap between the Indian states.?

The more you pour money, the more it becomes developed! No special credit to individuals of a state.

Access to sea which helps in easy import & export of goods impacting the overall economy of state. This is the biggest factor why southern states are more developed than Northern states.

Well, do you know of any large countries that have had uniform development and growth in all their subdivsions/States?

Moreover, when the population, resources and social stratification aren't uniform in all of our States/Regions how can growth and developent be uniform, and too within a Century of independence true Political and Economic unity?

There doesn't exist a country that has such a large economic gap between the different states like India.

Every country in the World is like that, even the Mighty US.....

IT is one more reason !!

You're mistaken mate. Regional Income and Human development inequalities are prevalent in most of the larger Nations of the World.

I think the answer lies in the very loose structure of the Indian state.

If we look at GDP/capita, then we can see that Maharastara is nearly 5 times as rich as Bihar. These are both massive states with populations in excess of 100 million each.

In most countries of the world, massive subsidies would flow from Maharastara to Bihar to lessen the gap but this does not seem to happen in the Indian system.

There is no way that the UK would survive if say Wales was nearly 5 times poorer than England.

Yes. But then there are places like Detroit and Louisiana, Mississippi that are behind a lot of the United States in every indicator there is.

Louisiana is close to a third world country.

It also depends on the culture as well.

There are also historical reasons for it. Gujaratis are seen as naturally entrepeneurial.

And the British already did develop some infrastructure In Tamil Nadu (then Madras) and Maharashtra (Bombay)

The British are one of the reasons for the underdevelopment of eastern India. Modern eastern India
and Bangladesh were for the longest time under direct British rule on the other hand parts of Gujarat, Mysore
and Kerala were ruled by Indian rulers during the British period who did a lot for the development of these
regions.

It also depends a lot on the culture though. And the absence of Rule of law and poor governance.

Also coastal states have an advantage compared to landlocked hinterland... lot more trading commerce and infra opportunities, also social change is more likely in places with ease of transport and communication (coastal states). You will find this is the US too, and many other countries.
