Well if you had applied logic to your answer instead of sheer ignorance you would know what was going through in Russia in the early 90's.

Because we didn't went begging to Russia for help to bail us out with dollars. We simply pledged our gold as collateral in return for IMF loan.

Besides, what better than to give away all of your hard earned gold for some coloured paper with no intrinsic value whatsoever and then call those who don't even show how much gold they have as beggars?

I think there's a difference between being in trade war with trillion plus dollars reserves plus being the second largest economy and being a nation who has just collapsed because of poor economic choices made during 50+ yrs of cold war and also pulling out of Afghanistan after 10+ yrs which put additional strain on a doomed economy but hey who am I to argue with PDF's in-house economists.
