You are right, the common denominator in all these cases is illiteracy, poverty, and corruption.

democracy is new to vast majority parts of the world (only < 70 years in India/pak) and takes some time to get used to. It just so happened that, ME countries (where majority of muslim countries are) did not have democracy till now, but that will change.

Actually, everything to do with Muslims......democracy succeeds or fails in nations not religious communities. If the nation is seen only as an extension of a religious community (i.e. Muslims), it will fail. Democracy is not just about elections, that would just mean the rule of the mob, it is about building a constitution, building & protecting constitutional institutions, rights of all individuals (including the right of a minority not to be bulldozed by the majority on the issue of fundamental freedoms), the rule of law etc. Democracy can only work successfully in such an atmosphere . Any other is a recipe for strife & the rule of a mob.Mobocracy is not democracy. Which is why Bangladesh will most likely succeed as a democracy better than most countries that emphasise only on their Muslim character.

In my personal opinion: This is due to the intolerance towards the different views. higher importance of Jihad over importance of peace. and religion legally / illegally being used to support the both side of the cause with success.

Wrong if you have knowledge about the history of this political Jihad it started with intervention of USSR in Afghanistan.....and off course with the involvement USA.....not before that.....most of the Islamic countries came to being after second world war.....Why west supported Kings and dictators at that time and till now.....???

can you show me where I demand democracy for any new country........please don't bring worthless argument of clash b/w Islamist and secular segments.....from muslim brotherhood of Egypt to Jammat Islami of Pakistan they all participate in elections.....+after what happened in Algeria & Egypt can you blame rights wings of Islamic societies for this clash.....???

what happened in Algeria and Egypt? do tell me where democracy and its principles were followed. Egypt is a classic case, win elections , move quickly to change the constitution with no input from others, go hard right into the Islamist mindset , deny co operation on the constitution, make religion based constitution the goal...

Again its nothing to do whom west support. Its the lust of powers in muslim elites which is responsible. People/majority intellects choose a head and the west supports it. West just need one guy to deal with and do business. But if the greed of this choosen guy/head exceeds the welfare of its own people then I wont consider west responsible. West will deals and supports monarcy as well as democracy. Its none of the west business how one leader leads the country. If you are friendly with west, they will do business and make you rich (ex: turkey, SA and others) and if you are against them then they will not do business and may lead to difficult life (see: iran, NK, cuba etc). Difficulty because west invents, produce and control most of the modern technology which makes life easier. Its the NATIVE leader and people living under them who is responsible to their state of lifes.

So what....?? - Civilization has progressed significantly. We have seen Lincolns, and we have seen Hitlers. So no, if people vote a Hitler into power, let them be prepared. Ultimately it boils down to a battle of survival. Liberal ideas of a hunky dory live happily ever after is not going to materialize. So live with it. If people vote a bigot into power, others will fight him. Period.

Sovereign state is no excuse to do what one pleases. Also the dictats of the majority of a country cannot hold the rights of minorities in ransom. If that was your idea of democracy, it is wrong. Democracy is not the unhindered infinite rule of the majority but one of moderation and general consent.

If so-called hardliners come into power through rightful election process, what make other to interfere in the matter of “sovereign state”?

BTW women rights are lame excuse mock their nose, we all are aware of the killing of millions of infants in Iraq due to UN sanctions after first Gulf, hundreds of thousands in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Burma and Kashmir

Democracy is not failing in Muslim world, it is slowly taking root in one country after another. There are occasional set backs, but the trend is clearly of increasing democratization of Muslim majority countries, just like all other countries of the world.

Democracy is still work in progress even in advanced industrialized countries. So things are always in flux in all countries of the world, including Muslim countries, with a general positive trend towards increased democratization.

partially agreed with you my dear......at highlighted point....but does this thing give right to opposition to adopt undemocratic solutions for the problem .......killing of thousands of protesters.....or inviting military coupe???

I do not deny there is a problem here. But does that mean the entire 'Muslim World' will legally deny rights? I also disagree this is derailing. Democracy is intrinsically tied to people's rights. And people includes women.

In any case the diff is also stark. While in some countries discrimination is institutionalized(stoning, blasphemy etc) in India we all recognize they are ill practices and are universally condemned. To solve a problem one has to first accept something is wrong.
