What's new

Why can't people stop admiring and voting for corrupt politicians (across party lines)?

This starts from home where they teach kids not to raiz any questions in front of brothers parents or teachers then don't talk back to religious scholar who their elders believe they are their saviour and the chain goes on later they blindly fall in love with politicians and ignore all their corruptions and only look for their small achievments like putting bulb in streets etc.
If we wanna become strong nation we have to identify difference between right and wrong first.

People grow up in a systematic enslavement politically in Pakistan

A big part of it owes to its culture of forgetting and forgiving and hold messianic views with regards to certain people.

Another is the continuation. People experiment out of will and pleasure when it comes to the ballot.

Dynasties are not something post independence. These people have been ruling us since 1857. They cut smart deals with the British back then.

Other opportunists have exploited the racial and sectarian card mixed with flirting and flaunting with socialism.

The people are smarter than you guys think. They vote out of practicality instead of ideology.

A cleanup of a few families would help the masses breath free.

The only problem is the fact elite cannot hold elite accountable.

It would either take a small scale revolution or someone sitting at any key position to grow enough balls.

There is no correlation between education and the ballot in the sub continent.

Because they have leeched minds they don't see one important thing one day everyone has to go we has to diffe between good and bad above our like

There is no one answer to it, there are many different factors that affect the decision of different voters. We all have biases, let it be ethnic, sectarian or even intellectual. Most of the time these biases is what affects a voter's decision in an election.

Take Punjab, the biggest province and most of the time the deciding factor in our national elections.

Up till 2010s, before the PTI phenomenon, there were two types of major vote banks here. Pro Bhutto and Anti Bhutto. Pro Bhutto was of course the PPP voters, they loved Bhuttos and were their Jiyalas, there were some urban folks in it but most of this camp was made up of rural population. Why did they loved Bhutto? Roti Kapra aur Makan, that slogan was a real crowd puller.

The Anti Bhutto camp were mostly the urban conservative middle class voters, who were pro Zia and found NS as a continuation of his legacy. This is why PMLN is called a GT Road party, as their power lies in urban centers along the GT Road.

During the Zardari govt the Pro Bhutto voters in Punjab got disillusioned because of the corruption, his friendly attitude towards PMLN, and hence in next election we saw PTI winning a huge chunk of their votes in Punjab but in my personal experience most of the PPP voters stayed home instead and did not take part in the elections.

NS on the other hand was able to still use the Anti Bhutto votebank, remember his speeches during the elections, he was openly saying that any vote to PTI will actually be a vote to PPP and also that PTI is a B Team of PPP.

The next election will be a bit different in my opinion, because NS will require a completely different narrative than what he has been successfully using for past 3 decades. PPP is a non-entity in Punjab elections now, it will be PMLN vs PTI, and he can't use the corruption slogan as well, as that will only hurt his own party especially after recent JIT report.

We don't have any political party in Pakistan with all angels in them so people have no choice

There has never been true democracy in the political history of Pakistan. Most of leaders are products of the main establishment. Even Imran Khan has suspicious background that put him on map in regards to foreign donation.

I doubt the main establishment will allow the real democracy to prevail which will be essence of people's power directly from the people in Pakistan. I wonder if Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto came through the support of people or not. I heard he wielded strong popularity in Karachi which amassed the political power that put him on the map eventually which didn't sit well with the main establishment hence the military takeover unfortunately.

It would be nice to have common people in charge but the expenditure to run the campaign cost too much apparently.

is there anything wrong in being a product of the establishment ?

Nawaz Sharif is the best example. He rose quickly during the Zia days. He has outlived his patrons.

I agree with @maximuswarrior that the Society lacks education and awareness. And since we have a knit families sometimes in our society we consider this as an obligation to vote those who are either directly or indirectly related to us. @Baghial

A small scale revolution.changes nothing. Only big scale .full fledge .ruthless firing squad. Pakistan was created by sacrifice of millions of lives. It can be saved by the same remedy. In 70 yrs politicans have made mass society moraly/ mentaly/physcialy impotant. By the drug of corruption. Favourism.bribe. threat.we became more patrioitc to a politicaly party head.then our own mothet land.self respect.honour.dignity. shame. Are all values of past. Now its bank balance. Villa,s BMW. Mercedes. Jaguars. Plaza,s and housing societies.

For as long we have been a democracy, we have seen people in positions of power and authority misuse the same for their personal benefit. Why does the common man not decry this? Especially when it comes to the same folks getting elected again and again....in simplest terms, how does the rising wealth of a local leader (obtained from questionable sources) help the development of the area / people? If not, then such a rise should send warning signals to the people who elected such leaders....but I don't see that happening....Why???
pls share thoughts and views
We need khilafat way of selection where only educated "The one's who know politics" can vote only and then the presidential form of Govt.
There is a difference between educated vote and uneducated vote.

I am quite optimistic and positive.
Take out the corrupts by hook or crook. The masses will fall in line like flock of sheep.

Lol
You take away their money they will fall like idols of the Ur temple.
Even if you take state protection from them the public will eat them alive like snakes in a Japanese restaurant.

Will power of those high up in the pecking order is the key

There are people who voted Asif Ali Zardari, and yet have the audacity to question why people vote corrupt politicians.

Is there something like NOTA for the voters ?

Its " I vote for Non Of The Above Candidates " in an election.

Also voting is important. More and more people should be made to come out and vote.

The society is nothing, but a mirror of the leaders it elects. We also love personality worship. The society lacks education and awareness to elect a leader on good judgement.
Our majority educated people also support the same folks and we cant just blame the uneducated voters that they bring such brigade of politicians power. Nation who votes on the basis of caste and brothery what will you expect something else... In Pakistan all educated and uneducated in casting the vote their mind set is the same...
