Why Bangladesh Performance is disappointing in Sports?

didnt hear about JCT much these days....but thats info is wrong..though most of them were Punjabis..recenty there have been transfers from other clubs as well.

about north easterns..they are naturally gifted players..almost all of them...soccer skill comes naturally to them..just like bengalis. I remember when I used to play for my school..half of our team was from students from darjeeling or , of north east origin..and we never lost a match then.

I play soccer a lot, and I would love to see it being promoted more in BDesh and West Bengal. I'm not that interested in cricket, partly because I was born outside of Bangladesh. Can anyone tell me about the performance of soccer teams in Bangladesh and West Bengal compared to the rest of South Asia? I remember Bangladesh winning the gold in men's soccer in the South Asian Games 2010 but India won the SAFF 2010 tournament. So I'm assuming this is because there are Bengalis on both of the teams? :azn::)

.
when was the last time we won the SAFF tournament? Wasn't it 2003?
We've reached all the finals between 1999 to 2005 in SAFF. As for the performance in football(I'm talking south east asia here) we aren't that bad. We've also won the gold on South Asian Games once in 1999(football) but those were the better days.

off-topic: to bd members anyone started collecting the world-cup tickets?

West Bengal's players have dominated and still dominates the football scene in India which requires stamina, hard work as well as skill.

We are 144 number in Fifa ranking. Please check the scores in this Asiad. We are doing poorly in any physical contact game. Lets accept it.

I think it has more to do with lack of training facilities, grass-root level infrastructure and overall insane frenzy towards Cricket.

Not long before players like Chuni Goswami, Tulsidas Balaram, Jarnel Singh, P.K. Mukherjee etc. dominated whole Asia.

Also the poor ranking because we play very few international tournaments.

I agree that veteran Indian players used to dominate Asian football. Quality deteriorated drastically. But I still believe that we are lacking something (stamina, power etc) genetically, otherwise how come so many African nations are playing in WC. Atleast we have better infrastructure than most of those Afican Nations.

Not sure about Bangladesh football. But had the privilege to watch some of those, Munna, Rumi etc in early 1990’s.

"Its more important to participate in games then winning" , those were the mantras 20 yrs ago, little has change since then.

Its not like we are much better. Considering our population(includes all south asian countries) we win far too few medals. I remember during commonwealth games bbc had a ranking based on total population and bangladesh, pakistan and india were the bottom three as far as i remember. Shameful really.

The kids in those African countries play football like kids in India and Pakistan play cricket when they are young. Its got nothing to do with genetics. Its all about what sports the youth get exposure too. Slowly things are changing especially after the recent cricket scandels, some pakistanis are looking around for others sports to follow. Hopefully our youth will be playing football instead of cricket in the future.

Bangladesh defeat China, meet Pakistan in final

GUANGZHOU, China — China's cricket aspirations suffered a reality check on Thursday when Bangladesh eased to a nine-wicket win in a brutally one-sided Asian Games women's semi-final.

China, who had squeezed into the last four with a one-run win over Thailand, were bowled out for just 34 in the 16th over with the home side struggling against Bangladesh's slow bowlers.

Only Sun Mengyao, with 10, managed to reach double figures while captain Salma Khatun, with 3-4, was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers.

Bangladesh will face Pakistan, who defeated Japan by nine wickets, in Friday's final.

"Bangladesh and Pakistan have been playing cricket since they were very young," said China's vice-captain Sun Huan.

"They have mastered the game. We came to know about the sport when we were in our teens, so we are just babies compared to them. It's good enough to make it to the top four."

Bangladesh coach Rai Choudhury believes China can become a force in the game in years to come.

"They have trained for the last three years. I think they are a team with great potential because they are progressive and don't give up," said Choudhury.

"As time passes, they will make great progress."

Pakistan romped to an equally impressive nine-wicket win over Japan who were restricted to 61-8 after skipper Ema Kuribayashi won the toss and elected to bat.

Javeria Wadood cracked 29 off 25 balls as Pakistan reached their target with almost 10 overs left.

"Bangladesh are a good team but we are confident for the final," said Nina Rashid who made an unbeaten 27.
