Why ASEAN invited India but not an South-East asian country Bangladesh

I have a serious question to ask ?

Why ASEAN invited a South asian country India but not an South-East asian country Bangladesh in its on going Summit.

I have been hearing the news that Bangladesh is the new South East Asian economic hub.

I think bangladesh is known as a south asian not south east asian country and india is also geographically much more closer to south east asian region than bangladesh due to north east india and andaman and nicobar islands and unlike bangladesh which has disputes with an ASEAN Country(myanmar) india has good relations with all the ASEAN countries

i have read many bangladeshis stupidly claiming to be south east asian similar to pakistanis claiming to be middle eastern i dont know what problem they have in coming to terms with their south asian roots

Bangladesh is ethnically and geographically a South-Asian country. But some of our knowlegeable members think that from geopolitical perspective we should emphasize on a closer relationship with Asean and should look for a membership, which sounds quiet reasonable.

As for the invitation, Asean will invite those countries who currently they think are important to them for certain reasons. Nothing to feel depressed or whatever.

Dude, having road connectivity between them two is like asking Mumbaikars (post-26/11 terror attacks) to connect to Karachi by road.

Myanmar and Bangladesh aren't very ..er.. hospitable to each other.

Before that you will have to stop nosing into Myanmar's internal problems and stop your political drive against them. They're one of the key ASEAN members.
