and even with subsidies, so what? private cars are subsidized by public roads. as long as transit cost is lower than the additional public road required for lower density housing then it's worth. also the value of time - wasting 1 hour less per day due to lowering traffic with transit is like being paid an hourly wage for that 1 hour every day for every person in the city.

remember that 1 subway train can transport 50 people per car just sitting, 150 people with standing, and there's 8-10 cars per train. let's say with maximum comfort and lowest capacity, 400 people can be transported per single subway train 1 stop, 5 miles away, in 15 minutes. that's 1 train, you can run 3 trains in that 15 minutes.

If those 400 people all drove, the traffic jam alone just to turn onto a 4 lane street in accordance with traffic signals would take 20 minutes never mind actually driving for 5 miles.

The reason why public transport is failing in insanely rich places right now like New York is the fact that it's not actually required to "go to work" that often for most American white collar work.

The "going to work" in those circumstances is mostly a formality due to tradition.

sorry that's a fantasy. not most, 22%, and that will be decided by the employers, not the employees. And employers have already decided: 44% of workplaces do not allow any form of remote work.

Maybe its too soon to say going to work is dead for white collar jobs. But commuting isnt so bad in america. Most offices for white collar jobs are already spread in to suburrbs. A job in manhattan pays more than enough to put up with any commuting hassles.

source? Pew Research doesn't support your assertion. Their number is 44% of high income work cannot be done from home. That gets even higher for low/middle income work.

you were wrong about 3D printing, now you've actually learned something about design for manufacture. you don't understand evidence and now have been given a valuable lesson on how to use evidence and sources. you failed to read your own source. who has come up with rationalizations?

There are literally 3d printed reinforced concrete housing happening right now in many places.

The kinks i'm talking about are simple things like smoothing the poop shaped walls automatically instead of using human labor to do so.

Every single time people try to gaslight people when I make the most obvious point.

it isn't 3d printed on site and isn't even revolutionary tech, it is just an extruded concrete prefab that has to be shipped to and assembled at the site with human labor. it's still a manufactured home which is considered low class and impoverished. nobody wants to live in a manufactured home. it is like living in a shipping container with no art, science or humanity. someone who wants to live in the suburbs doesn't want to live in essentially a shipping container like some homeless. also doesn't solve the infrastructure problem as they noted.

China already did this over a decade ago with prefabs. note how the prefabs are all smooth because they aren't concrete extrusions. it's still considered a lower value home than a traditional building even though it's held to the same standards because nobody wants to live in a manufactured home with the stigma thereof.

When the financialized trailer parks and the financialized medieval technique built piles of sticks get high enough in price, people will take 3d printed reinforced concrete housing for half price.

You know very well the speed of price creep in housing all across america the last 20 years or so due to the subsidized loans.

The main problem with the prefab homes you talk about have is due to their perceived lack of individuality.

The main problem that 3d printed reinforced concrete housing will solve is that very problem.
