Yeah but the question is, is any form of secularism, whether current or the one you envision, will even survive in the country when there is an increased tendency from the right wing Hindu nationalists to undermine the current state sponsored secularism and the increase in activities of some to turn the state in to a Hindu one?
The bigger problem with Hindu nationalism is an encouragement of pseudo-science, pseudo-history from the very top..This besides historical revisionism of the Medieval era (Rana Pratap defeating Akbar)...I am horrified at what it will do in extinguishing the budding scientific and rational temper of the Indian populace.....(Lot of rationalist movements down south that quash the fake supernatural claims of Babas and Fakirs)
As long as the collective energy of the Indian state and Indian people can deliver 7-8% growth rate for 30 years straight, things will converge to true secularism (not state imposed one)...The kind of secularism seen in East Asia and North Western Europe..where most people have come to terms with the fact that there is no afterlife, and this life is as good or bad as things will ever get.
Because it is the natural tendency of a populace to converge to true secularism once achieving near-developed status....The exceptions being countries of the Middle East whose developed status has been brought about by resource windfall rather than the cognitive achievements of the populace
Now the question is Can the Indian populace deliver 8% growth rate for 30 years straight from now?
I will say NO...I am of the opinion that infinite economic growth is not possible on a finite planet
India along with the rest of the developing world has missed the bus when it comes to economic growth..China took the bus and occupying it all by itself
The world can at best sustain 2 billion people at developed lifestyle level, be it with renéwable energy or not.
there are already close to 1 billion people living in developed societies..the rest 1 billion will come from China
How do I see India's trajectory in the 21st century?
India will be like Latin America of 20th century while China will be like North America of 20th century
As soon as the growth peters out, there will be violence between all the religious nincompoops as well as between the religious ones and the rationalists...........After the violent conflicts have been fought over, India as well as the whole subcontinent may settle down to a life of uneasy hedonism and increased crime, as evidenced in modern day Brazil...there will still be super high tech companies in India churning out world class products, just as there is Embraer in Brazil
