This is getting even stranger: the place that the SL team was attacked is apparently just 50 metres from the Liberty Circle police station!

So, a VVIP convoy has its route changed at the last moment, and is attacked just 50 metres from a police station. The attackers coolly walked around Liberty Circle for about 20 minutes without being challenged by anyone. All attackers escaped unhurriedly, without injury.

Video shows SL players were attacked near police post

HOMAGE: Pakistan's hockey team pay tribute to Pakistani police officers killed in Tuesday's attack in Lahore.

Lahore: CCTV footage available show the terrorists who attacked Sri Lankan players in Lahore on Tuesday walking around freely with heavy automatic weapons in an area which should have been secured as the cricket team was scheduled to pass through the route.

The footage taken from shops in the Liberty market exposes the complete breakdown in Pakistani security during the moments that followed the shocking attack.

After exchanging fire with policemen for more than 20 minutes outside the Gaddafi Stadium, killing six policemen and two others, the terrorists are seen casually slinging rifles over their shoulders, and walking through Liberty market.

While some of them carried bags, others had dropped their grenades, rocket launchers and handguns at the scene of the shootout.

They then broke up into groups of two each, and without exchanging a word get on to motorbikes parked nearby, escaping through the heart of the city.

What makes the video more startling is that it was taken about 50 metres from the Liberty market police station. Yet not one policeman is seen in any frame of the captured footage and the questions from within Pakistan and the international community are getting louder.

Why was no one monitoring the Liberty Chowk area? Why were the attackers allowed to move so freely? Why did no one raise an alarm on seeing armed men on the streets and just how did the men get away so easily?

Just across the road at the scene of the attack, the lack of security outraged International Cricket Council Match Referee Chris Broad. Broad saw his bus driver shot dead and fourth umpire Ahsan Raza lying in a pool of blood.

"They had clearly gone, left the scene and left us to be sitting ducks. So I am extremely angry that we were promised high level security and in our hour of need the security vanished and we were left open to anything and any issues that the terrorists wanted," Broad said in Manchester on Wednesday.
The CCTV footage also shows some more similarities to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

In both the attacks the gunmen are carrying their deadly fire power in rucksacks, shooting randomly, and splitting into groups of two.

But more than ever, the critical evidence has become an obvious cause of shame for the Pakistani government, already under fire for failing to secure the honoured guests they had vowed to protect.

Security Expert B Raman said that the attack is a serious act of negligence as there was no security arranged for the players en route to the stadium.

Indeed shocking security arrangements and a casual/careless approach by the Pakistanis !! Add to this, the footage shown by Pakistani sleuths at the terror site, casually picking up items and puting them in a bin (ALA garbage cleaners and not investigative sleuths) .

Add to this the lacklustre attitude of the government of the day, it seems that the Pakistanis are tired from fighting this war on multiple fronts. It seems routine now, clear up the area and get on to the next terrorist attack !

Contrast this with the response from India Rel 26/11 Mumbai attacks. From the people on the streets to the Indian media to its politicians ( of all persuasions) and its intelligence wing, everyone stepped up a gear. reports were produced and evidence collated.

I am not holding my breath, wating for this case to be solved. If they cant solve the murder of Benazir Bhutto, then this wont be solved.

Raw behind terror attack

M S Tanvir

Islamabad—The attack by terrorists on the Sri Lankan Cricket team by all accounts are the handiwork of the Indian Intelligence Agency – RAW and could have played greater havoc but for the bravery of the Lahore elite police who laid down their lives and nipped in the bud the designs of the terrorists.

However, it would not be wrong to say that it was a great security lapse given the fact that the federal as well as Punjab Government had authentic intelligence report about such a terror attack on Sri Lankan cricket players by RAW as part of Indian designs to create a wedge in the cordial relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka,

According to well-informed sources, the intelligence report was with the federal as well as the Punjab government as far back as 22 January. It was clearly mentioned in the RAW plan that the attacks should be carried out during the Sri Lankan cricket team’s visit to Pakistan.

The terrorists were trained and asked to carry out the attack on the Sri Lanka team either on their way from the Hotel to the Stadium or in the hotel itself. The attack in the manner it was carried out proved the authenticity of our intelligence agencies report cautioning the government well in time. The RAW’s plan also included attacks on leaders of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, but thanks to Almighty God a handful of our brave and valiant police personnel, the terrorists failed to fulfil their mission. While the government claims that there was adequate security, the observers are of the view that there were some lapses somewhere which needed to be investigated.

What is worrisome is the fact that the terrorists after their pre-planned and well executed mission disappeared from the scene leaving the police in the lurch. One can only hope and pray that the terrorists trained by RAW are traced as quickly as possible so that the mastermind behind the incident fund providers and the country where the conspiracy was hatched are exposed.

It seems all leads our pointing towards India. The only point of concern is that i for one have no hope in the current regime to effectively handle this issue and expose India's true identity to the world, moreover if this has to be this way, India openly challenging our sovereignty and attacking our guests in a quest to declare Pakistan a terrorist state, then it is high time we respond in kind. I dare say If India can threat us with words, i am sure we can do much more then mere words, maybe a surgical strike will help world realize to stop being a hypocrite and a Pakistani life lost is equally as important as any Indian or American life is and we are willing to go to any level if we have to to protect our interests.

Pakistan regrets Indian statements over Lahore terrorism

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly and deeply regretted the spate of official statements from New Delhi on the Lahore terror attack.

The spokesman has said that these statements were tantamount to scoring political points over a hugely tragic incident.

The spokesman also reminded India that terrorism afflicted South Asia as a whole and warranted serious, sustained and pragmatic cooperation at the regional plane to combat it effectively, as affirmed by the SAARC Ministerial Council in Colombo recently.

I'm getting a free indian news channel in my dish network, I'm so disgusted by it I'm going to call dish network and cut off the channel even though its free, I think its free for only this week but who would spend a single rupee on that propaganda.

The Indians are acting childish over this attack in Lahore, most are happy. The Indian anchor said in hindi, "this is Pakistan..they cant even protect their citizens". They report news on Pakistan more than Pakistani channels do. Seriously Indians quit being happy over someone else's miseries.

Two suspects accused of Liberty ambush held

Updated at: 0320 PST, Thursday, March 05, 2009

LAHORE: Crime Investigation Agency claimed capturing as many as five suspects including two persons, accused of having involvement in Sri Lankan team assault, from Lahore and other cities of Punjab, Geo News reported on Wednesday.

The investigation staff of the Punjab Police arrested them amid a raid on a building in the Saddar area, sources said.

The sources said the personnel of the Joint Interrogation Team of the Punjab Police arrived in Karachi on Wednesday morning, as they had information regarding the presence of suspects involved in the Lahore attack.

The team left for Lahore later in the day. Salman Aslam adds from Lahore, “The recovery of a cellphone SIM from a bag, abandoned by the terrorists and seized by the police from the crime scene, has led to the arrest of its owner and his alleged accomplice from Kot Samaba, a town in Rahim Yar Khan, according to the police sources.”

The police have also taken into custody 24 other suspects, stated to be members of various banned outfits, from different parts of the city. The sources said the suspected terrorists — Babar Shahzad and teenager Dilawar Hussain — have been shifted to Lahore under tight security.

The main suspect is in his early 20s and he had been working as a guard at a cellphone company tower in Lahore until a few months ago. However, currently he is an employee of a flourmill. Except for the cellphone, nothing has been recovered from them, the sources said.

They said despite detaining and questioning over four-dozen people, The Lahore police are yet to make any headway in the probe into the Liberty attack. They said the sketches of the attackers have been made in the light of the eyewitnesses’ accounts, including rickshaw and car drivers.

Three cars and a rickshaw used by the terrorists during the ambush have also been impounded. The case has been registered against 14 to 15 unidentified armed men. Explosives, suicide jackets, bullets asnd hand-grenades, seized from separate places, have been mentioned in the FIR.

According to sources, suspects had been residing in Lahore for some days and were being assisted from various cities of the province including Lahore.

Investigation team narrowed search operations monitoring selective suspected places following the information they sought from various secrets sources and launched several raids. As a result, five suspects were nabbed on Wednesday, sources added.

Also, sources confirmed involvement of Indian spy agency RAW in Lahore attacks as per preliminary investigation.

It is likely that agencies will make available investigative report on Lahore attack within 18 hours, sources predicted.

LTTE denied their involvment in 3/3 attack.
LTTE denies link to Lahore attack - Express India

TTE has denied any link to the attacks on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore, saying the Tamil Tigers have no connections with those terrorists.

"We don't have any connections with those people (Lahore attackers)," LTTE's spokesman Thileepan told the Radio division of Australia's Special Broadcasting Service last night.

Answering a specific question that there are some suggestions that the Tamil Tigers could have been connected to those attacks, Thileepan replied : "No, that's not true."

Asked whether the Tamil Tigers condemned the attack, he said: "Actually, we haven't made any comments on it." He also stated that the LTTE would not agree to the Red Cross call for a mass evacuation of civilians from the conflict zone and it would not surrender, despite a looming humanitarian disaster.

Thileepan claimed that more than 350,000 people were living with the LTTE and right now about four villages were under their control - Mattalam, Pokkarnai, Mulliyavaikal and Puthmattalam.

He admitted that the Tamil people were facing acute shortage of food and water and 11 people, including children and two women, have died because of starvation of food. Thileepan claimed that their supreme leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran was still with them along with his wife and children.

Very good news  Our Interior Minister has already pointed towards India

.
This morning - p chitambaram -said on times now:
he totally condemns the attack - and he gave his condolence to pakistan for brave soldiers but HE rubbished the - talks of Indian RAW involvement in pakistan attack.

.
Well, some Pakistani members seem to be ready to bet their lives for Indian involvement in the matter.

If there is no RAW involvement, then all these members and some GoP ministers are helping to damage the credibility of Pakistan. A time may come, when even the Pakistani statements with proofs will not be taken seriously. So, hold your words.

Now, if there is indeed RAW involvement; then it is very serious issue for Pakistan. It looks like the culprit has penetrated very deep. Also, this can be motivation for ISI and military to take the charge.

But right now, Pak members are sounding like a crying child. It seems they are desperate to blame anybody but GoP. Their anger will show only helplessness. So I request them to wait until there is some proof or solid logic. Overstretched logic won't help in showing Indian connection. :disagree:
