Imam Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali - he declared mathematics to be the work of the devil in the 11th century, and from there began the decline of the Muslim world.

The Muslims world was defeated few hundred years ago when the Europe was technologically advacinng

The 3 major Muslim gun powder Empires Ottoman Mughal and Persian decided not to cope with the advancement.

Sicne then we have been behind and will remain behind.
Precisely, it’s the same case with China, that isolated itself from technological innovation, but they turned it around.

As for the Muslim powers, in the case of the Ottoman’s it was a 200 year process of decline where their guilds dominated industries preventing new local completion. As technology advanced in Europe, they had to import ever high percentage of finished goods from Europe in key sectors.

shoulda challenged me to explain how. but nevermind, please disregard my post, explanation may not be allowed by the mods anyway, so... cheerz
You gave your opinion, and I gave mine. This whole thread is opinionated.
Why so serious bro?

@fitpOsitive guess where imam ghazali came from
Crazy people and ideas existed everywhere. You can also take many other examples where Muslims wrote extra-ordinary books on Maths.

Where he said so like that ? Dont just talk without using proper proof

How come math is declared devil by Al Ghazali who is very clever and understand about Zakat and calculating inheritance use Math and written in Quran, and there is even verse in Quran about the obligation to use Accounting system for business

Al Gebra is widely used in Muslim world and it is actually made from verses in Quran.

Fitnah in Islam has huge sin. Dont accuse some one without proper proof

Lol Western people once again that you use for reference

We are talking about Math here and no Al Ghazali never say math is evil.

This topic has been repeatedly discussed. From the invasion of Mongol into Baghdad that burn the library there into the Turk tendency not to put much attention on knowledge when they conquer Muslim world.

The missing link is actually during Ottoman period, but regardless of that Ottoman did does good in term of military and defense of Muslim

He should stick to looking at stars.

He thinks he's an expert on everything. From philosophy to gender identity. An arrogant prick.

The Muslim world defeated itself by abandoning Islam.
It is prophesied in Quran 25-30 which says the Prophet's people will abandon or overlook the message in the Quran [its comprehensive righteous values anchored in faith].

.
what do you mean by defeated?
Amost 99% of of muslim world today are independent countries ruled by themselves.
And how do you define muslim world? Do you mean who defeated ottoman empire?
Really mongols defeated the muslim world to be honest. After them it was only 3 centers of powers Ottomans, Persians amd Hindustan. Each part have a very different story of rise fall and sustainance. They cannot be grouped together.
Plus there were East asians Muslim Dynasties, Far west african muslim kingdoms which were there own selves.

Al Ghazali's main argument, which on the face of it is very reasonable, is that mathematicians should stay out of religion because that is not their training.

He said this because mathematicians were much admired by those who follow them for their clarity and the beauty of proofs. Mathematicians were also generally skeptical of religion. People who admired their mathematical work also respected their opinions on religion.

Al Ghazali's claim is that just because you know science doesn't mean you understand religion and that interfering in religion was the work of the devil.

In this way keeping religion above scrutiny and criticism created the modern Muslim world.

It's not the monetary system.

It's local socioculture that was infused into them practicing their religion which made them weak.

I think it's simply a case of lacking meritocratic practices in daily life. Not prioritising research and development. And also not being economically liberal enough to let free market's survive.

Too much control in daily lives trying to control everything. Not enough focus on R&D, meritocracy.

Dr Syed Ali al-Attas below says the root-cause is the corruption of knowledge which leads to ignorance, injustice, and poor leadership. I think it is also corruption of faith and the lack of faith. The values in the Quran generally don't exist in the masses and national leaders. I lived in Kuwait a long time and never thought of Arabs as righteous people described in the Quran. You come across individuals like that, but they are not the majority, so my question is, should it be called 'the Muslim world'?

Nope he's right, it is corruption of knowledge, ignorance, injustice, arrogance, lack of meritocracy and poor leadership.

Lack of faith is a poor excuse, even the Christians or the atheistic can excel with the above.

Muslims always infuse their ethnic culture which is most of the time rooted in arrogance, ignorance and despises meritocracy.

They hate their own countrymen and would rather suck off the angrez. It is a serious issue.
