When F-14 Tomcats Landed in Pakistan !

Just spice up the mission that otherwise had nothing exciting.

PAF Base Shahbaz Jacobabad is a main PAF base, Why would people be shooting at the planes there? either Base commander didn't want Yankees on his base for long so he scared them or they are just plain lying to spice up the interview.

As we landed at the Pakistani base, we were hesitant to shut down the engines for fear they would not be able to find the right piece of gear to start us back up. With a huge language barrier and running on fumes, we finally had no choice but to shut down and hope this Tomcat wasn’t going to spend the rest of the war sitting on static display at this Pakistani air base. Getting out of the plane, the support crew motioned to us to move as fast as we could and later told us that locals around the base are not all that friendly to our cause and may try to take shots at us and the plane.

What a load of cr*p. Typical American ignorant, imperialistic attitude.

Back then even the Block-52 stationed there had to have a protective cage like instrument on the intake.

Back when? We didn't get the blk52 till 2010.

We should have buried these arrogant mofos alive and burnt their plane
USA is not the enemy. Your enemy wouldn't give you 76 F-16s, 51 AH-1s and other Naval jets apart from license production of armored vehicles like M-113 which form the backbone of Pakistan's mechanised infantry battalions. How many of these have given to Pakistan by India or Israel ?

International relations are not black and white. USA has to be handled diplomatically by Pakistani authorities.

Plain lying. An acquaintance has commanded that base in its earlier days. The population around is not at all hostile. Utter bull just to spice it up. Even the locals around would never be able to identify if it's a Pakistani jet or US one. Besides he himself is saying the Commander wouldn't stop talking which is far more believable as we Pakistanis are really social and hospitable when it comes to any foreigner in particular.

Provided information suggest that the pilot Michael Vizcarra was 'nervous' under the circumstances of the time; he was 'assuming' that something bad might happen to him, his colleagues, and the jets by extension, while they were on the PAF Base Shahbaz. PAK-US relations were at lowest point back in 2001 - this was the impression at the time. The hospitality and professionalism of Pakistani armed forces proved him wrong and his fears being unfounded.
