When China Rules the World: The Rise of the Middle Kingdom and the End of the Western World

For over two hundred years we have lived in a western-made world, one where the very notion of being modern was synonymous with being western. This original and ground-breaking new book argues that the twenty-first century will be different. With the rise of increasingly powerful non-Western countries, the west will no longer be dominant and there will be many ways of being modern. In this new era of 'contested modernity' the central player will be China.

Far from becoming a western-style society, China will remain highly distinctive. Continental in size and mentality, and accounting for one-fifth of humanity, China is a 'civilization-state' whose characteristics, attitudes and values long predate its existence as a nation-state. China is already having a far-reaching and much discussed economic impact, but its influence will be far greater than this: China's rise signals the end of the global dominance of the western nation-state and the rise of a world which it will shape in a host of different ways. As it rapidly reassumes its traditional position at the centre of East Asia, the old tributary system will be resurface in a modern form, contemporary ideas of racial hierarchy will be redrawn and China's ages-old sense of superiority will reassert itself. China's rise will change the world as we know it, from one made in the west to one increasingly shaped by China.

This profound and far-sighted book explains for the first time the deeper meaning of China's arrival as a global power.

Terrible book and terrible book cover. It is an obvious exploitation of fear-mongering to sell a pathetic book. Also it makes the attempt to equate the "demise" of the "West" with China's Rise -- wrongly accusing China for the (eventual) fall of the Whites.

Propaganda and hate/fear-mongering is highly frowned upon. :agree:

Very intelligent opinion indeed.

The author wrongly accused China for the demise of the West. The West is declining for its own blunders. China is not and cannot be held responsible for that.

I guess China will probably attempt to modify the existing international norms, not just to simply subvert those; to initiate new norms not just wait to be led... when chances arise.

Any thing that goes up must come down. Leadership is nobody's monopoly (**** ki jagir). Do you see the Greeks, Romans or the British around any longer? USSR has gone. The US has had its day and it too shall fade away. Maybe China will call the shots then. But the dominant powers in the world namely US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, Japan etc will remain powerful and will not be subjucated. The caucasian race will remain a dominant and progressive race (they will not go back to the trees). Other countries including China and India will emerge as powerful nations and so will other races emerge. West is not declining because of its blunders, others are rising. That is the law of nature.

if this is not racism, then what is racism?

You yourself are not a pure blood Caucasoid.

Pathetic selling point of this book !

Nothing but another China threat, be aware, be alert.

Yes; China is progressing, but still a long way to go.

Nothing to be proud of until one day we Asian could stand shoulder to

shoulder with the west .

Just stop believing in those fake praise from the western media,

They want us to feels good and believe we are already there.

Sweet dream never last long. :smitten::pakistan::china:

China will certainly not rule the world, that is a ridiculous statement.

The world is becoming increasingly multi-polar, and China will play a major part in it, but nothing more than that.

first time on this forum you posted something or other then troll-max stuff.

oh right comment should be on the authors book.
well every thing which has beginning must have an end. world is changing by rules which are based on consumerism and made by west to maintain their dominance on the world but asians used it too well especially china. multi-polarity is on its way in power distribution which is supposed to be good but soon tension between powerful countries will rise because of scarcity of resources just like WW1. the demand of food and energy will rise. rise of china will lead to heavy competition for resources between west and china as we have seen heavy investments in africa.

There are many ways to 'rule the world'; which one is the author talking about?

Economically, the wealth and power will become more distributed.

Militarily, the US will continue to lead for the foreseeable future. Everybody else is playing catch-up.

Culturally, too, the US is not going away anytime soon. English is the world language, and American culture dominates the globe.

Scientifically and technically, the field will narrow but, here too, the West is not going down.
