This is exact what India should do. Side with freedom and democracy and defeat communism, socialism and dictatorship. Otherwise, India is just a bystander who does not take side on the righteousness. India should not be indifference in struggle against communism, dictatorship and terror or its just as guilty.

**** i should have voted for the F-16 lol, hey any pakistani who votes next make sure its the F16 :D

I think Indian AF should find a way to get F35 as its a proven fighter.

First Induct it. then prove it. Many modern fighters today are unproven.

LM has offered the F-35 for upgrade if the F-16 is purchased . IAF has showed no interest.

IAF needs a fighter now before 2015. F-35 production lines wont be free till after.

That is why the Indian navy is considering considering the F-35-B for its carriers, As part of the NMRCA

So far
An RFI was issued for the NMRCA that is all.

IF LM has already tried to market the plane to the IAF with no success.
I guess it is just not what we want.

PAKFA is still 15 years away.

we shall see :coffee:

If India wants to rule the sky of Asia, it need to find a way to get F35.

it will help no doubt.

IN is considering the option.

IAF has its own plans.

If I was the government, I would negotiate a secret gov-gov deal to get some F-16 or F-18 for the first few years and then the remaining places F-35. F-35 is a force multiplier. One of this is probably 3-4 typhoon or rafael. So If India first get 50 F16 and then F-35, it would be a better deal than 150 rafael/typhoon. Why not get a certain 5th generation fighter instead of 4th generation ++++++++++++++++++^50 and hope for a pie in the sky when it comes to a 5th generation fighter.

That is your personal opinion.

but reality we don't want f-16's .

We don't have place for F-18's

We don't fully trust America to not place sanctions . Our relationship with the states may have improved but there are are still justified fears of US double talk.

We don't want to be left hanging in the wind as the US has a change of direction.

Either you see India as long term partner , as you do with your European allies .

or it something more short term.

Where are US and Indian interests , do they intersect enough to guarantee a fruitful relations ?

I think people are forgetting that MRCA wasnt planned when LCA program was initally adopted, as far as i know these fighters are being bought to close the gap caused by the time delay in LCA program. It would not only further undermine the LCA program but it will also make LCA's further induction more difficult. The people who worked on it, the engineers and all, all of their credit will be taken up by the MRCA winner. You need a LCA substitute, for high end fighters India already has MKI and for future needs Pak-FA

Not to burst your bubble but the cold war is over. You won by the way.

India was according to America dangerously neutral in the whole war :.

Socialism in India has a long tradition, emerging from the struggle against imperialism and represents a significant part of the country's historical political heritage.

Communism who the cubans ? the Vietnam again ?
China is some kind of communist capitalist state.
North Korea is necrocracy(governed by the dead , in this case the great leader who is still the official head of the state, despite having been dead for more than 30 years, his son is only the head of the governing party)

Dictatorship ?

Well your right , there are a lot of those.
You want to fight them all.

Iraq was not exactly a job well done.

A problem with the US is that its a democracy. We have leaders that come into power that has totally different priorities and perspectives. As a result, its relationship with countries like India would change. I understand you would like the US to treat India like England or Australia. As both the previous and current administration treat England or Australia the same. Should any US administration treat India the same as Australia?

The answer is no as India is not in the same level of friendship as Australia, Japan or England. As a result, US/Indian relationship is more prone to shift base on a particular US administration. So its not only up to the US but also India to define its relationship. If India wants US to treat it like Australia, Japan or England, than it should totally trust US as allies and assist the US in global war against terror and against any form of enemy. Otherwise, I do not see the need for US to treat India as a dependable allies. Dispite the fact that US policies can change with each incoming administration, India can also take action to ensure that its friendship with the US is solid dispite the changes in the US government.

at the end of the day no relationships are needed at the cost of soverignity of india as simple as that. we dont want to lick unkils @$$ . if they want a proper straight no double standered relation ship they are always welcome :argh:

No one is forgetting .

India has a fighter shortage of 10 squadrons.

MMRCA is to close some of that gap.

Agreed the Tejas may not be inducted in the 300-400 range that was initially planned.

But IAF has ensured that it wants the aircraft. Its support for the MK-2 aircraft is an affirmation of that.

Even after the 40 LCA mk-1

IAF is still slated to purchase over a 150 Mk-2.

Look at it this way.

MMRCA , MKI , FGFA , AMCA

They are all expensive high end planes , expensive to produce and operate.

The Tejas is a cheaper but similarity capable (that's what the IAF requirements are aimed at ) Single engine multi role fighter.

It can be inducted faster , cheaper and in far larger numbers. and operated at a far less cost.

Every remaining Mig-21 we have will be replaced by the Tejas . That is the minimum order

What India want's is consistency , not parallels with Other US relations. If you think this is a one way relationship then, India has already played ball for the US by distancing it self from Iran, to the protest of many in India.

like i said nation interests do they intersect enough to ensure a desired relationship. that question is still unanswered in Both India and America

Indian sovereignty is key to Indian's. The opposition parties will butcherer any Government for compromising even an iota , and not not getting anything in return.

That means any partnership formed , even if not equal has to ensure that our interests are safeguarded

US has single standard relationship with countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and Australia. No one is licking anyone else as each country is soveign. No Soviet to (Poland, Czech, or Hungarian) type of relationships. However, all the allies has its role in uphelding democracy. Each one has mutual respect and understanding of one another.

India should buy the J-10B. There is a direct correlation between Chinese military equipment and winning wars.

If China were not india's next door neighbor, i am sure situation would be pleasantly different...BTW i favor china anytime over US but again trust deficit problem occurs, which i am hopeful will fade with time...till then hope for better future..

India should buy the J-10B. There is a direct correlation between Chinese military equipment and winning wars.

A few problems with that suggestion:

1) J-10B is not out yet, and we need planes fast

2) It has to come with full ToT, plus all spares

3) It has to have good ground attack capability. j-10 hasnt proven that yet.

But most importantly:

4) Supply of spares and associated weapons should not stop if there is war. Will china provide that, if India goes to war with Pakistan, or China itself?
