buddy no offence i call it SANCTION PLANE

absolutely, a plane whose take off is decided by IAF and landing by US Govt can at best be used to ferry folks around disney land. Good for India Obama is President, maybe less of arm twisting from US.

It should be EF or Rafael as these 2 aircrafts are the real machines which are available without strings attached as well as they are capable of taking down our adverseries's current fighters. Although these machines are expensive but we need to see these 2 fighters will be used by many users, even manufacturers, in next 20-30 yrs time and will be timely upgraded and new technologies will be upgrading these AC time to time.

Grippen , No doubt is really a nice fighter but problem is with ToT due to most of US parts and clash with Tejas Mk-II. As Tejas Mk-II will be almost in same line as Grippen.

Mig-35 , it has very less chances. As Indian Airforce will not keep all the eggs in same basket. Secondly its same Mig-29OVT with some new addition in terms of Radar n some more changes. Moreover we donot see more customers for Mig-35 , even Russian Airforce will not use this aircraft, so chances are very less for such aircraft's upgrades in future if we are seeing MRCA age for next 25-30 yrs.

F-16 , No doubt its a very capable single engined aircraft till now, It would have been my first choice if it would have been offered in early 90s. But now this aircraft age is also almost over in next few yrs. Block60 looks better but who knows when uncle SAM offers same jet to our neighbours in name of "War on terror" and that too free or may be in terms of upgrade after 5-7 yrs.

F-18 is also a good Aircraft but same issue goes in ToT with uncle SAM. It may be a choice from Political factor but it should not be selected due to uncle SAM;s sanction in case of conflict with neighbours. Same problem with upgrades in future as we donot see much users for this AC once US navy adopts F-35 after 5-7 yrs.

The bad points are not bad points really when you compare with other contenders except sanction.
It is also called a bomb truck. Steps into Su 30's shoes. I dont know how the fact that it is operated by USN (besides RAAF) and not USAF sits with IAF. There is a dividend to buying American equipment beyond the deal despite end user pestering agreement. ToT issues remain.
Least capable AESA among the contenders but no sanction and less ToT issues.
Looking for something between LCA and Su 30, it may fit the role. AWACS can help with looking far.
EFT got an AESA named CAESAR. Its the best AESA among the contenders. Its has some LO features as well as SC allows to reduce IR signature. Most agile.
Hot contender.
Waste of money!
Had the neighbour not operated these, and had they started replacing Mig 21's much earlier then probably would have made sense.
Good but collides with Tejas mk2.
Not really, if Gripen is a good plane and Tejas II is similar, it could not hurt to have more of a good thing.

No takers. Very expensive.
underdog in the contest.

Actually F-18 was the hot cake until now but with some political http://www.defence.pk/forums/images/smilies/cute/chilli.gifturmoil between India and US, Gripen NG and Mig-35's chances are getting better.

IAF has had the opportunity to study most of the competitors at close quarters at joint exercises. That experience should help.

I said it before and i will say it again.

This tender is just going to boil down to 4 planes.
Single engine aircraft will take hike.

SAAB has messed up its chance's wi and crosses over into LCA territory. MOD and DRDO would never allow it.

F-16 , IAF has been training to shoot them down not keep them flying.Despite LM good offer, the fact that Pakistan has them , means they will be a no go

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now we are left it 4 planes ,

Mig-35 ( Too many delays have to wait till 2014 , till first delivery, MOD wont accept it.) its a safe buy , but there are better options.

F-18 ( I don't think it can win just based on technical merits , if it wins it s political ) it's half hearted to buy a plane which is not what we really wanted , its expensive to induct , cost more than the MKI with out most of the capabilities.

#########################################

Euro fighter( very good offer , very expensive and possible delays)

Rafale( very good offer , very expensive , commonality with Mirage systems makes training and induction slightly less expensive, france has also offered to Equip the Rafale with Kaveri engines when completed, as well as give us the AESA source code.)

Rafale is the best offer , but its technical capabilities and cost effectiveness still need to be taken into consideration. Most interesting it that the Rafale also has a fair chance of winning the naval MRCA . Which itself will be based on the MMRCA. It's consideration and a possible way to bring down costs.

Same goes for the typhoon , which can still edge out over the French plane.

Its going to come down to these two. both are brilliant planes , we get what we pay for with both of them and more(Euro fighter partnership/(France) Help with indigenous development). What else can you really ask.

************************************************

what will be interesting however is if our prediction about the first round knock outs are wrong. That can essentially change the whole view of the competition. and what kind of aircraft the IAF wants

What would you rather see flying in the skies over India.

I prefer the worst aircraft to be inducted in IAF.

:pakistan:

unfortunately FOR YOU GUYS we are not buyin the f 16 IN SUPERVIPER

IMO F 16 IN SUPER VIPER is long gone dead and got buried and lost its deposit in this poll

Same feeling here....

1. Rafael
2. EF

3. none (it could be F18 if OUR PM and his master (Sonia G) wants)

MIG 35 and F16 were out of race since starting... Russia gets consolation contracts to swallow this news.

Grippen or Tejas... we will prefer to improve tejas with TOT received from MMRCA.

during the first week of this month when a member of the IAF team became the first non-Swedish pilot to fly the Gripen Demo from the front cockpit. The team had eight flights in the aicraft, and will fly it again next month. The Gripen Demo will touch down in Jamnagar on May 17, after which the IAF will decide the sequence of trials the airplane will be put through.

While the Gripen people are still basking in the rumours and feedback about how well their pair of Gripen-Ds performed during the India phase of the evaluations, the team is palpably nervous about ferrying the Gripen Demo to India.

I think Indian AF should find a way to get F35 as its a proven fighter. PAKFA is still 15 years away. If India wants to rule the sky of Asia, it need to find a way to get F35. If I was the government, I would negotiate a secret gov-gov deal to get some F-16 or F-18 for the first few years and then the remaining places F-35. F-35 is a force multiplier. One of this is probably 3-4 typhoon or rafael. So If India first get 50 F16 and then F-35, it would be a better deal than 150 rafael/typhoon. Why not get a certain 5th generation fighter instead of 4th generation ++++++++++++++++++^50 and hope for a pie in the sky when it comes to a 5th generation fighter.

We will have the 5th gen fighter jet before our adversaries
Till then 4+ will work :smitten:

Do you really think that we could get F35 easily without Heavily changing our foreign policy :woot:

This is exact what India should do. Side with freedom and democracy and defeat communism, socialism and dictatorship. Otherwise, India is just a bystander who does not take side on the righteousness. India should not be indifference in struggle against communism, dictatorship and terror or its just as guilty.
