What's new

What was PDF like in the early days and its future

In my experience the longer time one spends as a member of this forum, the less toxic they become. Part of the reason i would presume why the enviroment here has become so toxic in recent years is that there has been a large spurt of newbies. In some ways PDF became a victim of its own popularity, attracting all kinds of new members in high numbers. Maybe the statistics back this theory up?

Anyways im glad the mods are planning to clamp down harder now @AgNoStiC MuSliM . PDF is a jewel and a source of pride for Pakistanis online. People from all over the world come to visit our site. There were so many other defence forums from other countries but all of them have slowly fizzled out, whereas PDF has only been growing. Lets keep it that way.

You're being too generous here. PDF ranks above 20,000 in terms of worldwide popularity. I believe it's around the 800 mark within Pakistan itself with a majority Pakistani membership base. Only ~12% of traffic is from India. The stats can be checked on Alexa webstats. The next most popular country is The United States at ~3%. Not surprising given the number of Pakistani expats based there. Countries like China, Turkey, Iran etc. have negligible amounts of traffic and don't even make an appearance on the heatmap.

Defence/military message boards have always been a niche market and will likely remain so. Regardless, moderation and management have screwed up in a big way at projecting a positive image of Pakistan. Some things such as having your Twitter account suspended and being host to discussions on genetic superiority (led by appointed TTs and admins, mind you) have irreversible negative effects on the credibility of a forum.

I'll let you know when you try to enter the dark side of the moon. Nobody wants this child predator v Chung as a mod on this website. You keep your homosexual bike ride stories with him in your personal capacity.

Eat a donkey dick. And as we say in Punjabi LTC.

Did you know that homophobia can be a sign of deep seated insecurity of one's own sexuality?

Why don't you put your hand up to be a senior mod? All the seniors like @WebMaster and @Oscar are saying most of the issues revolve not enough good mods.

I mean you're a successful highly educated professional. Earning good money.

You are of Pakistani origin.

Your pre-pithy-Pavlovian one liner posts were incisive.

You are a biker and thus are precise and decisive and objective with a keen eye and anticipation.

Cheers, Doc

Put my hand up? It would be shot off! :D

Seriously, I wouldn't volunteer, but if asked by Webby, I would say yes, to the horror of many.

But that is not likely, let us be honest. PDF is not ready to change in any appreciable way. Even when I was more active here, the expectation of a team member to blindly follow the prescribed agenda left no room for any differing views. Hence, only those who enforce the status quo that has led to the decline are selected, quite often "dubiously" (only as an example, no personal attack or pun intended or implied).

I will of course continue to respect the management's right to run their forum as they see fit.

It was beautiful and best defence forum. Even though I joined in 2014 but I was a silent reader since 2006 and Believe me you will not see that golden era of PDF coming back again now.

People fail to realize that the Internet is meant to be toxic. Trying to moderate it is futile.

@AgNoStiC MuSliM

Good luck with your crusade, but you've tried how many times and it always ends up with the same result.
Agno was an admin in days past. Recycling him as a mod will not do much to change the same fossilized mindset and its applications, leading to predictable results in keeping with Einstein's famous quote.
I'm assisting with moderation in my, limited, spare time. The team brought me on board at my request.

This is not a 'crusade' nor any 'forum wide attempt to change a mindset'.

Cheers

Thank you for the assistance in moderating, and the clarification.

I think the main problem with PDF is moderation team not able to give enough time or the need for more moderators. If you have suggestions for people that fit the moderator criteria please let us know in the GHQ section. Better moderation = increased quality.
I am free this year
