Other side:

Cricket - Cricket was first played in India by british.

Indian Railway - Worlds largest employer - creating 1.6 million job opportunities inside the "Republic of India" - is a contribution of British.

Indian Penal Code - what ever be the use - it is also made by British.

The first Automobile Industry in India emerged before Independence..

Their contribution include Engineering, Education, Health and lot more...

Also the British founded the concept of India as a country in the first place..before that it was just a bunch of small small countries fighting among themselves..

Thats so sad...we could be richeset and most prosperous country had britishers not entered our land...

The other points may be partially correct....this is not .

India as a country was very much united during the Maurya and Gupta period. The concept of a single country with a supreme emperor has always been there . Only at the end of the Mughal rule , the country was politically fragmented.

British were only another foreign ruler to conquer all of the country . They did what others had done before them several times.

a country is made by its people who can make its ruler proud, by use of their capabilities, talent and education. but yep its rulers also who provide enough support to their people, to help them rise in life. even right now, if we have a look on the GMAT scores, scored by the Indians with respect to rest of world, it looks like a generation gap between Indian students and rest of the world. every foreign company in India knows that they can't get better students than IITs, IIMs, AIMS etc (and also from other top Indian institutes) than anywhere else in the world.

Have a look on GMAT scores, scored by the students of Indian institutes w.r.t. to rest fo the world.

Note: GMAT score for IIM Calcutta was '760' in 2009 which is incorrectly written here for 2010 as '500' only. Minimum GMAT score required for admission in IIM Calcutta is "700", as per in "Admissions Requirements" section of this website. )

Note: Average GMAT score of few top universities of USA is above 700 mark mainly because of those Indian students who got admission there under scholarship programs for their very high GMAT score, raising overall average GMAT score above 700 for these universities. Over 95% population of country like USA, UK, Australia, Canada are hardly high school pass labors, there is just no enviornment of studying hard in these countries. High GMAT score of the universities of these countries is mainly because of the International students.)

This is a fake story doing the rounds of the internet. The copy of the actual speech is available on record & nowhere does it mentions this rubbish. The use of the American spelling for "caliber" instead of the British spelling "calibre" by a 19th century British statesman (in the records) should be a quick giveaway to the lack of authenticity of this purported speech

Thats so sad...we could be richeset and most prosperous country had britishers not entered our land...

Don't buy this revisionist rubbish. Indians were in a terrible wretched state before the British came except for a handful of people & I mean a handful (a few hundreds). The vast majority were poor & could barely eke out a living. The British didn't much improve matters but they weren't the cause.

Then why did the come and take over if it were such a hell on earth ?

and this proves you are right? do you have record while this is nothing but a piece of paper and its scan? "Blind patriotism is a disease." America was nothing but similar to Africa in 17th century which was discovered in search of Golden Bird India, and the wealth were located in Asia only that time. have a look on the report by Indian government also. Thanks

this shows how poor knowledge you have and how ill you are when you read facts? and for you, I only have to say again that, "Blind patriotism is a disease.". wake up and have a look on other links also, US is nothing but made by the immigrants who develop new techs there. thanks

Bang Galore, Congratulations for catching out this fraud. The funny thing is that even the redoutable Amitabh Bacchan had got taken in by this bit of trickery and posted the (purported) facsimile of Macaulay's speech (the one in post#1) and posted it on his blog about 2 years ago . Then he found out the facts and retracted it. This is still alive on the internet nearly 3 years after it first started. Speaks much about the gullibility of denizens on the net!
