Going through this thread tells me that more people want a democracy than shariah law.

Your wrong, more of us Pakistanis want Islamic Governance! This pole is irrelevant because many india members have also voted in this pole!

Ask any average Pakistani what kind of governance they want and they will tell you Islamic governance!

this is wat i want:

Addressing Bar Association Karachi on 25th March 1948,
"Thirteen hundred years ago he laid the foundation of democracy… The Prophet was a great teacher. He was a great lawgiver. He was a great statesman and a great sovereign who ruled. No doubt, there are many people who do not quite appreciate when we talk of Islam. Islam is not only a set of rituals, traditions and spiritual doctrines. Islam is also a code for every Muslim, which regulates his life and his conduct in even politics and economics and the like. It is based upon highest principles of honour, integrity, fair play and justice for all. One God and the equality of man is one of the fundamental principles of Islam. In Islam there is no difference between man and man. The qualities of equality, liberty and fraternity are the fundamental principles in Islam."

Also in the same speech,
"What reason is there for anyone to fear democracy, equality, freedom on the highest standard of integrity and on the basis of fair play and justice for everybody… Let us make it (the constitution of Pakistan). We shall make it and we will show it to the world."

Muhammad Ali Jinnah

go to this thread to know wat Jinnah wanted: http://www.defence.pk/forums/nation...ding-jinnahs-mind-build-jinnahs-pakistan.html

does anyone else want such Jinnah's Pakistan?

.
@^^

That would be ideal, but extremists on both sides will not like it.

The ones for democracy will say that a true democracy is not possible with islamic ideals, and the ones for islamic ideals will say that they are not possible with democracy.

and we need to defeat both such extremists. they both are ripping our fabric and they both have ruined our country.

pakistan and pakistanis are the only victim of their war which they have been fighting for last six decades.

Very well said Sir,

I 1000% agree with you - best post of this thread :)

. .
For starters

1-be done with the civil service and hire professionals/PhD's for provincial and federal secretaries, no more css/pms!!!

2-abolish divisions with immediate effect

3-call back the viceroys from districts and let the people govern themselves through their elected mayors.

How can i find out who else voted for Monarchy?

. .
Well, we have tried everything in the last 7 decades. Made three constitutions, Presidential form, Parliamentary form, dictatorship both in civilian and military shapes, tried to implement Shariah Law, socialist republic, and one Prime Minster tried to become Ameer ul Momeneen. We had a military dictator whose name with rank was added in the constitution and he conducted elections on a non-party base. We also had a military dictator endorsed both by the Parliament and the superior judiciary and, who also got also re-elected by the same Parliament as President for another 5 years or so... Now with the present situation, we Pakistanis cannot afford to keep on doing experiments. We have a constitution of 1973 which we miraculously got agreed upon...now we can't make another one. Make some amendments required and just simply move one. It's already way too late.

Monarchy is forbidden in Islam
You sure about that brother? Actually Islam does not state any specific form of government. The caliphate after the death of the Prophet (PBUH) was a spontaneous order that evolved after this shocking and deeply saddening event. Muawiyya (ra) was criticized for putting Yazid next in line of the throne (i. e. implementing a Roman or Persian style monarchy). But Ali (ra) himself appointed Hassan (ra) to become the caliph after him. These were the dynamics of that time.

But Islam does specify some rules (in fact there are not so many rules), most of these rules rely on our self-policing skills. The problem with many secular and religious political scientists is that they don't see the awaam (the people) as mature human beings rather than sheeps who must be controlled. Laws regulating every aspect of our lives makes it difficult for people to prosper.

What I hope for Pakistan is as follows:

- strong free market economy --> provides jobs
- strong free market education --> provides cheap and high quality education
- strong free market health care system --> provides cheap and high quality health care
- educate our people in the light of the Quran and Sunnah (i. e. self-policing)
- educate our people that Pakistan is not just another country rather than the Megali Idea of our time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megali_Idea) --> strong MUSLIM identity; the difference between us and then are not just our Arabic or Persian names!
- Nation building, nation building, nation building --> strong MUSLIM identity needed; there is still tribal hatred out there in Pakistan even though we are Muslims! I know parents who would die of an heart attack if an Pathan would marry their daughter. Educated, six figure salary, tall and involved in social projects but the parents reject him because "he is not family"
- Make people independent, don't force them into a marriage they don't want, let them be individuals not part of a socialist commune like family (one earns and feeds 100 ungrateful family members)

But this cannot be ordered from above. Our politicians just have to implement policies that create an environment for people to prosper. And this environment is a free market, no need to ask your grand-daddy for permission, no need to kiss the feet of an old Chaudhry, no bribing fat politicians for authorization to become a new textile competitor in town.

You see, the problem is not King, General or Prime Minister, the problem is in our mindset and deeply rooted in our society. To fix this, we need time and a new environment for future generations.

But Ali (ra) himself appointed Hassan (ra) to become the caliph after him. These were the dynamics of that time.

Nominating someone of the highest caliber to lead the Muslim world was Caliph Ali's obligation as an Ameer ul momineen - - - - - -

Imam Hassan however was got elected by a shoora because after the martyrdom of caliph Ali only Imam Hassan had the public following, experience, charisma and leadership skills - - - - - . Now why Monarchy is forbidden in view of many scholars? because it doesn't allow any criticism of the royalty and a qazi cannot rule against a king, which is against the very essence of the Islamic idea of social justice and equality. Rest I agree with you
