What India Wants In One Of The World’s Biggest Fighter Jet Orders

When it comes to defense acquisition Pakistan is way better than India. They do not have to worry about any deal till it is signed. We take a decade of o just decide which one we want. Ridiculous.

It is because in our case the Military makes the decision while in India there is a proper process, albeit very bureaucratic and hurdle-some.

If this strategy solves Indian foreign policy objectives without spending money then it is even better. It is not like India is going into a war with Pakistan or China anytime in near future. India has ~250 SU-30 that would serve IAF for another 2 decades at the least. Any new program can come post 2030. There is absolutely no hurry.

Well said.

In case of PAF I would agree but if India wants to stand toe to toe with China then IAF needs to spend a whole lot more and get top of the line Western Fighter Jets, preferably F-35 series and atleast 8-12 squadrons.

the Afghan war teaches one thing top quality machines are not needed to fight a war ... one needs a courage and one time food for survival to fight a war thats it ...

US invasion of Afghanistan can be considered Afghan war but in reality it was just aerial bombardment of a defenseless country with military invasion with the assistance of USD and traitors.

What you are referring to is urban warfare, which would not be the case if India and Pakistan go to war.

Well it is working well but it is not only this strategy but various factors such as regional policies, trends and actions then comes international policies, trends and actions come into play as well but the thing is how to place or use such deals for ones benefit is where india played very well..

war is coming and it is inevitable and its starting will be between 2023 to 2025 and ending will be very quick but a very devastating and the new maps will be coming up...

Oh please. Both the Afghan and Vietnam wars were fought against enemies that used guerilla tactics, in addition to being surrounded by hostile civillian populations and very harsh terrains.
If a war ever happened again between our two countries (god forbid)- it would be a war between armies. Go study how it turned out for you in the past. No need to look at Afghanistan.

well i guess you dont know the dynamics in Afghan war and you dont know the nature of Afghans and its history ... 2ndly yes your are right the war will be between armies and they have weapons to destroy each other and this is why i said it will be devastating for the world .... the past is not what present is and the future is unknown and but if you wanna go to the past then indians has very few victories over western side of it whereas the invaders and conquerors always came from the western side to india :) so for history why start from 1947 why not beyond that

Wars happen only on PDF. There won't be any war in real life.

=>China is busy Building its economy and military to surpass and confront US. China does not want to get bogged down with confronting India which is local player

=> Pakistan is building its economy and Military to lead the Islamic world. Pakistan has issue with India on Kashmir but it would limited to crossfire only. Any escalation than this would directly impact CPEC which is going to bad for both Pakistan and China. China will not like it and will impress upon Pakistan not to escalate things with India

=> India is happy with the status quo. India already has ~250 SU-30 for Air Superiority, would receive 36 RAFALE for MMRCA and 11 LCA per year for Light combat. India does not need any new fighters at least until 2030. There is absolutely no immediate need for any new fighters. This new RFP and evaluations are going to take the next decade and would be ready in time for replacing SU-30s.

Wait for French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to India... some really big defence deals are currently under negotiation...

Joint development of fighter jet engine, missiles and radar...
Purchase of new submarines is also under consideration...

Something on intelligence sharing too...

There would be no new deals. This is an election year and there are no CAPEX funds.

India is planning to revise the specifications for one of the world’s biggest fighter jet orders, people familiar with the matter said, a move that would allow manufacturers such as Boeing Co. and United Aircraft Corp. to pitch their twin-engine combat aircraft.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has asked the Indian Air Force if the search for fighter jets could be expanded to include twin-engine aircraft after Lockheed Martin Corp. and Saab AB were the only ones left in the fray with single-engine products that met the earlier norms, the people said, asking not to be identified as the discussions are private.

The South Asian country started looking for new warplanes in 2007, a contest that ended with the government selecting Dassault Aviation SA to buy 126 Rafale jets for $11 billion. With talks stalling over price and quality guarantees, the government subsequently scrapped the purchase and bought 36 jets separately to speed up the process.

The proposal for the change is being discussed, and there has been no decision yet, the people said. Defense ministry spokeswoman Swaranashree Rao Rajashekar declined to comment.

The nation’s air force and navy require as many as 400 single-and double-engine combat aircraft, the government has said. The air force is seeking at least 100 planes in an order worth about $15 billion, while the order for the 57 naval planes could be worth about $10 billion, according to Jane’s Information Services

On economic of scale single engine is better
India first had 125 mrca competition which evaluated single and double engine but in end discarded it and settled for 36 Rafael now they r again doing that thing aso why did they wasted a near decade and huge sum of Indian tax $ ??
