What has democracy done for you?

Imagine that benevolent ruthless dictator turns out to be like Zardari plus gets anyone who opposes him shot .. Then what??

Zardari had his own brother in law murderded according to the victims daughter. Many suggest he had benazir murdered. Trust me mate democracy has delivered an abortion in zardari for pakistan

What is the matter with Pakistani members in PDF ?

I asked a question about what the Military rule has done for Pakistan as against the democratic framework and the answer from Pakistani member to my surprise was in favour of military rule. Any rational thinker would then say that military rule is a better option than democracy given such a response. If i disagreed with military rule then I would hear the same thing.

So it looks like a few on this forum are confused and look at Indians with suspicion for anything and everything.

Consult a psychiatrist instead please and this obsessive and suspicious behaviour may come under control before it is too late.

Rich from you young man. A few days ago you posted something cr*p on here and even your own countrymen (Ashok 321 ) commented that "after posting over 2000 posts on here you had begun to drop horse manure posts on here". You see after that statement one can deduce one has to be cautious and take whatever you post with a pinch of salt. Secondly as you are in the habit of dumping horse manure on our forum perhaps its you that should be consulting a psychiatrist before you post anything else. :azn:

I am well aware of the saying that absolute power corrupts as I am of other constitutional issues like separation of powers and what not. I studied constitutional law for two and half terms. But when you have a population whereby a donkey can get elected if bibi or some feudal says so then democracy has not is not going to deliver what we want. I was trying to say that in my opinion democracy is not an absolute term its a relative term. Even the western countries that are far ahead of us only gave women and blacks the vote relatively recently. The nirvana or utopia that we are looking for does not come over night. In fact I don't know any country which has attained the final version. Earlier in their journeys to emancipation all western countries have had benevolent dictators. I mean look at Spain in the heart of western Europe had a dictator until about 30 years ago. Mush had his faults but why were the Americans and west pushing him and Pakistan to do deals with benazir and PPP? because they wanted Pakistanis to have proper representation? I don't think so. Franco was in power for decades west didn't treat Spain as having illegitimate representatives. Anyway am off to chill out just think about it and it will dawn on you Karen.

I hear you.. But the point you are missing in your argument is that you are assuming that the dictator is benevolent. In a country like Pakistan, the same donkey has equal chances of becoming a dictator if he has enough goons and money.. If and when that happens, how do you get rid of him??

Well my solution is that at the moment we dont have genuine political parties. PPP was bestowed on bilal in a will. PNA is shariff personal fiefdom. An average pakistani has more chance of joining pakistani army. I think Mushys mum was middle class clerk. You dont rise to be a general or chief of staff in pakistan army without being clever etc. We have had 4 failures generals. Mushy was nearly there the only problem was he wasnt ruthless enough. He should have eliminated the feudals and political corrupt parasites. In stead under pressure from americans he did a deal with the devil in the PPP and we are back to square 1. Maybe 5th time we will be lucky. I was suggesting on another thread a technocrat would do for a limited period and ISI could easily rig elections and satisfy western perceptions of democracy. So yea we will have to keep having these militery or civil coups until we get the right person. So what we have to struggle until then.

1.There is no acceptable definition of democracy or a universal concept to display. Neither is there an ideal that others can emulate.
2. When in 1857 the revolting soldiers of SA gathered before Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, a spontaneous slogan reverberated the walls of Delhi: " Khalq e Khoda, Hukumat e Sipahi, Takht e Badsha". Within this cry truly lies the political system for the peoples of SA.

Lack of minority rights is indeed the reason why the Ahmadis, Christians, and Hindus live in fear in Pakistan (the Jews are long gone, of course.)

The lack of media rights is why crazy madmen are on a shooting rampage against middle-eastern looking people in the US of A. And they end up shooting poor Bangladeshi instead!

And don't forget UK. Their great secret services and even greater Scotland Yard monitored a man they believed was a "Muslim terrorist" and shot him on the street in open day light. And it turned out the man was a Brazilian Catholic who had no connection with any unlawful activity anywhere.
