I saw many news about T-84 yatagan procurement by Bangladesh Army (most of them few years old news)

so what is the status of it ?

many sources said bangladesh ordered or negotiating for 76 of T-84 yatagan tank and by 2015 BD will have 200 of it.

. . . .
You bought mbt-2000 instead... doesnt it make sense?

Yes, we bought MBT-2000, but it is only 44 units so far. @BDforever is suggesting BA will induct a total of 200 units by 2015. I think, since BA has adopted MBT-2000 as its main battle tank, therefore, it will keep on inducting more because the other types of older tanks will become less attractive if not obsolete.

BA is not going to throughout any of the old tanks, all of them are going through heavy modernization.

Yes That is right.I must say I am quite impressed with the improvements done to it's primary MBT Type 69II G-
1. Bi-axis stabilised 120 mm smoothbore main gun (NATO compatible), with semi-automatic loader, capable of firing ATGMs
2.New fire control system (FCS), laser range-finder, thermal imaging sights, data-link, laser warning receiver
3.1,200 hp diesel engine
4.Explosive reactive armour (ERA) protection, fire suppression system, NBC suite
5.New communications and navigation equipment (including GPS receiver)

This brings them a generation up, if not two. Good work by BD on these old timers.....

similar type of modernization is going on around 300 Type59 tanks (Al-Zarrar tank standard)

:cuckoo: 44 MBT-2000 were bought instead. The contender for the MBT program was T-84 Yatagan, Type-96G, Type-98, Type-90VT-1A (MBT-2000).

The T-84, T-90, AK and the MBT-2000 were competing during the tank tender. The MBT-2000 came out as the winner due to very favorable financial terms from the Chinese, along with some ToT.

I dont think AK was a contender.. mbt-2000 is a chinese version of AK itself... while AK is superior to it....thus costlier...plus can you show me a source for the ToT?

It was according to reports:
The government was supposed to buy seven tanks last year and seven more this year. As only a Chinese company took part in the tender, the government cancelled it, and re-invited tender in which four companies from China, Russia, Ukraine, and Pakistan participated. Chinese company Norinco was selected as the lowest bidder.
Army to get 44 tanks

The value of the deal was pretty high for 44 tanks. So ToT is possible in the long term.

You bought 1 unit per 3.7 million... tht sounds enough to me.... surely tht wouldnt get you ToT in that budget...... plus does bangladesh have a even heavy vehicle manufactoring factory...not talkin abt a over hauling factory...
