Chandigarh: The Indian Army`s Western Command will mark the golden jubilee of the India-Pakistan war of 1965 with events planned for September.
"Celebrations are being planned in a befitting manner in Western Command," a defence ministry spokesman said on Sunday.
"The main function will be organised at various military stations on September 22, primarily centring around paying tributes to our brave martyrs and war heroes. Light and Sound shows are also planned in the evening," the spokesman said here.
The events, including adventure activities, include a cycle rally expedition from Jammu to Delhi, rafting-cum-cycling expedition from Madhopur (near Pathankot) to Fazilka (south-west Punjab), sky-diving, felicitations of gallantry award winners, veterans and `veer naris`, photo exhibitions at multiple locations, lectures and talks in Army Public Schools and Kendriya Vidyalyas, and visits by NCC cadets to War Museums.
"The involvement of schools and NCC (National Cadet Corps) cadets has been planned especially to motivate them to join the armed forces," the spokesman said.
Units under the Western Command fought some famous battles against the Pakistani Army and came out in flying colours. These include the battle of `Asal Uttar`, `Dograi`, `Basantar`, `Barkee` and `Haji Pir`.
