West needs to understand that China is different

You say civilization state only because you'd like territories which aren't in your nation's possesion. Please dumbo chi-bots, stop insulting our intelligence and playing charades.

Said the brainwashed genocidal westerner pretending to be more civilized than everybody else despite their entire history showing the exact opposite....

And ye, you are different, we dont eat household pets. /disgusted

I'd much rather have you eat household pets than attacking and destroying entire countries across the world and plundering their natural resources... Please go and eat pets, just stop massacring people, deal? You oh so incredibly civilized westerners who never hurt anybody and are merely seeking truth and justice and humanity! ;)

And Turks have no blood on their hands?

Erm, because the west has a combined nuclear arsenal that could wipe China out as well as is the largest market for China's products, and so it is manifestly better to take into consideration what the West says than dismiss it out of hand? I mean come on, seriously that is an ignorant question.

Quite frankly you have not a clue who the future belongs to, the US' medium to long term economic future is looking pretty bright at the moment.

You should know why if you think you can speak about our future.

Nuclear power is used as a defensive/intimidation tool, never as an offensive tool.......................

And bringing up using nuclear arsenal to wipe of "X" country is not really a rational way to start off a debate .........

why China should care what the west think?

Just ignore them as they are soon in kitchen garbage sink ready to flow into sewage. Future belongs to Chinese States and Muslim States.

It's not the rest of the world worrying about what China thinks about them. It's China that's worrying about what rest of the world is thinking about china. read the title again.

We are catching up and closing the gap fast, you may disagree and believe otherwise, that's ok,we don't really care and let's just wait and see what future decade plays out.

There's a fair chance that China will never complete this catching up as it is. something has to change. China/CCP/Population something.

lol.....failbot

An apt example of 'civilizational-state'
Straight from the mouth.....

I will make a slight correction. However, Kissinger is the one who made the distinction. From the OP.

The main reason is that China is different. In Jacques' words, it is a "civilisation-state" rather than a "nation-state", and should not be judged by the norms of the latter. Roughly the same formulation is employed by the West's most perceptive and seasoned China-watcher, the Harvard professor and former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger.

His On China, published last year, is a marvel. In his eighties, he has lost none of the acuity that had pushed him to the forefront of one of America's greatest post-war diplomatic triumphs: a thawing of relations with China from President Richard Nixon's trip to Beijing in 1972.

As a historical figure recording history, he has spoken to them all: Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, down to the so-called "fourth generation" under Xi's predecessor Hu Jintao and beyond.

The Kissingerian analysis is realist, pragmatic and heavyweight -- and it makes the standard issue Western criticism look like the nit-picking of amateurs.

He first sets out why the Chinese take a very long view. "A special feature of Chinese civilisation is that it seems to have no beginning. It appears in history less as a conventional nation-state than a permanent natural phenomenon."

I dont think you have posted the question correctly. In fact, we take the criticisms as reference or simply discard them and move on in our own way all the time!

that is silly! if the event happens, it is the end of the world!

In which case China should care about what the countries of the West say.

This doesn't mean bend the knee or whatever, but China must take the West's reaction as a consideration instead of simply disregarding its reactions, just like the US does with China.

Think about how many times we could have faced global nuclear war if the Soviet Union and the West didn't take each other seriously.

China must take care about what the West thinks, just as the West has to take care about what China thinks.

If China is afraid of your nuclear threats we would be following US orders. The Diaoyu island issue is a great example, US wanted to meddle with it but what did the US accomplish? Not much as the tensions between China and Japan keep on rising. US can't even get Russia and China on her side dealing with Iran so it's just a wet dream from you if you ever think US and EU will launch nukes at us if we are not following your orders. Plenty EU countries might be your lapdog but Russia and China sure ain't.

As mentioned above, taking our thoughts into account doesn't mean being subserviant. Neither the Soviet Union nor the US were subserviant to the other, but they sure as hell took the other's thoughts into account.

This is even more important for China to do as its capabilities advance.

We have followed our treaty obligations on the Senkaku islands to the letter, and we have made clear we will intervene if China tries to take it by force, and this response has been sent to the Chinese as well.

We have no national interest in the islands sovereignty beyond defending our treaty obligations, claims of sovereignty not withstanding, and we have articulated that these fall under it. We are not defending these islands because we care that these islands are Japanese, but that our national honor (basically our word) is at stake on the issue, and we will preserve that.

It is unfortunate that tensions are rising, but ultimately Japan and China are the deciders of that, while we can only mediate when possible. I'm fairly sure that our treaty is a great issue for any Chinese thought to take the islands by force though, making it less of a likelihood than it would have been otherwise.

With regards to Iran, we got Russia and China out of the way for the most part, if not necessarily on our side, so overall we did plenty well, we could never expect everything to go our way, that just isn't how the world works.

It is an example of why China should care at its basest level you numnut, I will not waste time going into more detail than the West has the biggest stick and the biggest individual pockets (yes even now) because it should be manifestly obvious.

Oh spare me your stupidity and ignorance and also don't lump us together with the US, there is a huge gap between you and old Europe – as wide as the Atlantic Ocean.

Your sick racist philosophy should be confined on your continent.

Point out where I was racist.

The rest is just trash rhetoric from a bitter guy.

You are so stupid that you don't even understand what you are talking abour. Nuking a whole nation just because they are catching up or overtaking you? What kind of philosophy is that? American human rights? Freedom brought to you by the US? What gives you the right to keep others below you?

Seem like the OP forget to put in the link.
Here it is from Malaysia New Strait Times.

I think generally Asian are a bit worry that US smart power is too smart for them, not so smart for us.
The last 20 years since the Soviet collapse has seen Asean expanding.
We do not want another Cold war.
Nobody should ignore the West, but here is Asia, not the West. So West should try to understand Asia.

So much for taking these 2 super powers' thoughts into account.

As far as tensions running high between China and Japan, you don't have to worry about a war happening any time soon. Right now Japan and US has bigger problems to handle, their own economy while China is building up its strength. There are issues US will not listen to anybody and that applies to China as well no matter if you have loads of nukes.

Why so? Taking another country's thoughts into account doesn't just mean to pull them to your side, but to make sure you don't push them over their red lines.

Then tensions aren't so high are they? That is fine for us.

Your last line is exactly why both sides have to be mindful of the other. Just disregarding what the US thinks out of hand like the original person I responded to wanted is not feasible for China, and vice versa. Both sides have ways to make the other side squirm, and this will likely never change given the geographical positions both inhabit.
