Lemme guess it's sunny Middlesborough? I thought Darlington (I was there last week) but that was surprisingly "ethnic free" and tad posh so I will go with M'sboro. There is huge miltary garrison on the west side of A1 (Catterick) and few RAF bases.

And while I go all over UK thanks god I miss out the extremities in particular the very north. I am on about the north of border. I was talking to a interesting Scot Pakistan with deep Scot accent. Glasgow apparently is the most violent city in UK.

Ps. Talking of steel have you seen that ugly but somehow iconic "Angel of the North"?

@Abingdonboy Yeh I know about Tetley although I am a PG man. Chances are that the tea itself comes fron Indiany way. Talking of tea I cannot survive without cup of tea for longer than 4 hours or I get headaches. So in a way I am addicted to India/Siri Lanka.

On the road I pull over into Mcs for tea although it is rubbish but they are everywhere and easy in and out. I always ask for half fill so that the brew is stronger.

On the subject of steel India is million miles ahead on the steel front. Pakistan has not even began on this race and I doubt we will anytime soon. The tragic reality is sometimes nature can create mix that is waiting for the right human input. Tata is good example. Pakistan has NO iron ore worth mining. The Damodar valley in India was blessed with coal and iron and just needed a enterprising person which was found in the Tata family.

I know it is possible to build steel industry without the natural resources like Japan but let accept that is rare and Japan is a exemplar of that.

And are you Sikh?

further north than rotherham, Lancashire. you dont find a lot of ethnic violence here, in-fact its the lowest in the uk, in my opinion anyway.

Yes indeed. We have plenty of mines. We call them Madaris. Just like Mines need miners we have Talibs mining the one abundant resource Pakistan has - religion.

Actually truth be told Pakistan does not have much in the form of natural resources or at least those resources that a aspiring industrial country might need. Coal zilch. Iron zilch. Oil zilch. Some gas but running out fast.

However we have probably the greatest historical heritage sites in South Asia and in the running for the top 5 in the world. These range from dawn of history Harappa to latter gems like Makli Tombs.You probably know that lot's of significant Sikh holy sites are in PK. Hassan Abdal is not too far from my ancestral home. Add that to some stunning scenery and landscapes we could have tapped this resource and turned Pakistan into a tourist hotspot.

However religious mines put such foolish ideas into the bin.

Indeed, I would particularly like to visit Nankana Sahib (about 100km from Lahore) at some point in my life.

I was under the impression that there was quite a large amount of untapped resources in Pakistan-particularly in Baluchistan?

My job involves driving all over UK. While on the M1 I suddenly felt tired - you know the type where your eyes start closing and you go onto a trance. So I got off the motorway at next available junction for Rotherham ( a crappy northen English town ) and once off parked on a side road. I closed my eyes to have a nap.

When I woke up and opened my eyes what did I see staring at me from across the road? A huge stylized sign spelling "TATA STEEL". I must admit for some reason I felt good about that sign. Maybe because the thought of all those racist bigots ( Rotherham has a repuation ) working for Indian company. Jamshedpur was making it's mark in Rotherham.

So well done India.

Ps. I spend 99% of my time bashing India. This is the other 1%.

TATA Steel is actually subsidiary of the TATA group, within India itself.

There has been a big growth, expension in the Indian private sector after the economic liberation of the early 90s. TATAs being a prime example.

Hoi, come on, Tata Steel was big long before that!!!

I have moved and lived in so many places in UK and Ireland that you might as well call me a "Traveller" or "Tinker" although I don't flog tin buckets for a living.

I do live in UK. However Britain is safe and more than capable of being "Great" without me. I do however feel my ancestoral homeland could do with some "mendin an fixin" and in order to do that I got to fly the flag or else the "natives" will start digging into my conflicted background. I fly the Iranian flag first because I have enormous respect for that country. I have had the pleasure of having some great Iranian mates and can look at that country beyond the headlines.

I also feel that Pakistan badly needs to fix it's relationship with Iran because in the long term it would be good for both. Even right now the gas shortage could be addressed by Iran. Just like UK and France needed the Entente Cordiale to begin the reinvention of modern European history and laid the grounds for the Europe of today. In the same way Pak and Iran need similar "Entente" to begin laying the grounds of regional block in Central Asian region.

Much like modern European Union looks back at the Roman Empire I think such a block in Central Asia could look at Persian Empire as inspiration. Anyway seem to have gone tangent like I usually do.

Indians in general are doing very well in the US as well, especially in IT industries and in medical sector. My family Doctor is a very nice Indian Lady. In average, they have higher family income than Chinese. I would love to see they can duplicate their success in India as well.

Most honorable and smart Indians had left India. Few of them stay behind. It's a no brainier.
