What's new

[WE ARE NATO] The Turkish Parliament just voted to approve Finland’s NATO membership application (276 MPs voted for it, 0 were against)

. .
Putin is definitely not happy about Finland joining in fact nobody is in the Kremlin.

I think there response will be stationing tactical nukes on the border region and deploying nuclear forces

Russia already has nuclear weapons near Finnish border.

As soon as the dispute with Turkiye was resolved, the Hungarian parliament very quickly approved Finland's accession. I think Finland completed the procedures in less than 2 years, making it one of the fastest countries in NATO history to complete the membership process. If the legal arrangements had been made without waiting for the tripartite memorandum, they would have been by far the record holder.

Congratulations to Finland !

Protection is better than no protection and believing that somebody is not going to invade you especially when that somebody is notorious for invading others including your own country.

Congratulations to Finland ! Good to see them join NATO. The security umbrella will stop Russia nibbling any more of their terrority now. And, to boot - Russia's security problems have multipled now - not decreased.

Hopefully Sweden joins soon - they will need to act on Turkish Concerns and it seems that they are finally now.

The whole of the Baltic sea is now basically a NATO lake - severly degrading the military potential offered by the Russian Naval base in Kaliningrad and the foot of NATO will be fully on St Petersburg..

Once Russia is thrown out of Ukraine, and Crimea is liberated and the Russian Navy is thrown out of Sevastopol - then Russia's hold over Black dimishes massively aswell - it will basically become a NATO lake aswell ( though various Turkish treaties on access to the Black Sea will limit NATO's potential of course ).

Ukraine war is not turning out to be too good for Russian interests. Russia is failing strategically at every level ...

What about Sweden? Finland is no big news. Turkey and Hungary had already approved their membership.

I doubt that. Russia isn't interested in any other territory. Ukraine is right next door. Makes sense for Russia to intervene.

I think Pakistan would also intervene if another power occupied or meddled in it's direct neighborhood. In fact didn't we when uncle Sam and NATO were empowering Afghan warlords? 🤔

Sweden needs to grow up and respect some of Turkeys concerns. Finland has - so those concerns are not that toxic .. Seems like events are moving in the right direction and Sweden will join aswell once they complete their new legislation.

Russians are an expansionist state - one of the few to have actually expanded their borders in the 19th/20th century. Even Putin talks about re-establishing the old russian Empire ( the other is India - reg: Goa and Sikkim, Hyderabad and much more .. )

I dont see the logical equivalence - Pakistan never occupied Afghanistan terrority. It tried to control ( and fail because illterate beards are now running Afghanistan ) to control politics / leadership in Afghanistan to reduce both Indian and NATO interferrence - but the last time i checked - the borders remain the same.

We will see whether Sweden joins. First Sweden needs to extradite Kurdish militants to Turkey. Remember that the real crux of the matter is PKK Kurdish militants that support terror against the state of Turkey. Sweden allows such Kurdish elements to thrive.

Russia will do whatever it takes to secure it's interests. It doesn't matter what X, Y or Z has to say in this regard.

You are not understanding the point I am trying to make. Pakistan was accused for undermining US/NATO efforts in Afghanistan for 20 years. Should Pakistan have sat idle because US/NATO were levelling these accusations? Nations do whatever they are required to do. Whether they are weak or strong effort is made to secure national interests. Russia is simply doing the same.

Agree - the barrier to entry is high and yes, Sweden wil have to decide what to do next. However, now that Finland is part of NATO, there is no land border threat to Sweden - only naval, and aerial - both of which Sweden can handle until it gets it's house in order.

Russia's ability to do what it needs to "secure its interests" is decreasing. Russia's ability to be a nusiance is also decreasing. The degradation of her militaries capabilities combined with sanctions that will bite and limit her economy over the long run, wil degrade her ability to be a serious player again. Only thing Russia has to look forward to now, is to become China's petrol station and the occassional flag waving of nukes. I think you have to appreciate how Russia now no longer sits on the same table as USA, China as it once used to do. It is now a regional player at best and not global. Russia thought it was looking after its interests, but it has ended up costing Russia alot more than it has gained. The outcome for Russia tactically, strategically, short-term and longterm from this folly, are poor.

No - I understood - but i am more "outcome/results based" in my thoughts - Pakistan did what it needed to - but it is also on the verge (if not already technically ) of bankrupcy - so you can say that USA/NATO have managed to "enact their revenge" on Pakistan for Pakistan actions in Afghanistan ?? So - Pakistan's wins were small, partial and truly 1-dimensional in nature and only in the short term. Strategically Pakistan has lost, by now having an illterate neighbour, a compromised relationship with the centre of global investments flows ( the west ..) that India is benefitting from massively.

The country who won from Pakistan's folly in India - look at their economic growth, foreign investment flows, outsourcing to India and look and Pakistan "reputation". Did Pakistan actually "win" in Afghanistan ? I dont think so - imho.

As far as I'm concerned, Finland earned the right to be in NATO during the winter war.

as for Sweden, who cares about the most cucked nation on earth?
