We Are in This Crisis because of the Decisions of the Chinese Government

Yes, China's decisions are definitely to blame.

China forced the US to develop faulty test kits.
China forced the US to keep its borders and airports open.
China forced the US to NOT prepare in any meaningful way for well over a month.
China forced the US to allow hundreds of infected into the country from Europe.
China forced the US to wait till the very last moment to ban public gatherings, NBA games, etc.

. .
99% Im winning the bet now, CN is collapsing,EU is collapsing, US is collapsing...and U r sick and jobless
Ermmm, I am working actually and my yard is at 90% production now. So if the world collapses, Vietnam will be a supapowa? So China does not have any domestic supply and demand market? I mean we have a billion mouths to feed n clothe, you don't reckon we produce that much food to feed? I mean I was just wondering..

Don't argue with the drunk. That person has lost his mind. I am in Vietnam and most clearly what happens. Thousands of travel companies are about to go bankrupt because there are no Chinese tourists. Hundreds of textile and apparel companies are about to go bankrupt due to lack of textile materials from China. Hundreds of thousands of farmers have difficulties because there is no way to export agricultural products to China. Vietnam's economy is so dependent on China that if China coughs slightly, VietNam will go half a step into the coffin. I can't believe he expects China to collapse. WTF. What the hell is in his head.

See Soviet collapse ?? And still having many billions Russian after the collapse ??

CN collapse doesnt mean all of u will starve to death. Just CN will not become developed nation and a real super power .

U guys will just make money by selling raw materials like yarn, rare earth like other third world nations till the rest of ur history. No one buy ur 5G as EU is dead. Thats it

Hindsight is 20/20. How much sooner should the lockdown be, if you're in charge?

The first known patient back then was diagnosed in December and the virus was still unknown. No one knows how fatal it is or whether does it transmit through humans, and if so, how does it transmit and how many has been infected. No test was available as well. China had to do research & development, then mass production of test-kits, and deliver them to healthcare institutions. It takes time.

The lockdown of Wuhan happened on 23 Jan.

From the diagnosis of an unknown virus to an unprecedented lockdown, it took around 1-2months. If the outbreak started in the West, would the West do better? Would the West dare to take the initiative to do an unprecedented lockdown on their cities within 1 or 2 months?

The West had months to prepare. Even in late Feb with all the info from China on the characteristics of the virus and the modes of transmission, you have politicians like Trump still downplaying the Covid19 as "just the flu bro". And in March you have several Western countries including the US which can't even get their test kits ready. Now you have the UK basically giving up and going for 'herd immunity' strategy.

Be realistic. Yes, I agree that China indeed could've done better with greater transparency, but that's hindsight. I look at things as a whole. After looking at the approach of the West these few days, you think the West would've take action more promptly and handle the situation better?

I would think that the West would be even more complacent.
Exactly!
If the whole world did what Singapore Gov had been done in past 6 weeks, we had already contained the virus!
China suffered an unprecedented loss to prevent the virus from spreading it.
Yes, China Gov made a big mistake in the beginning, but what the **** the rest of the world did in past 6 weeks? They knew there is a new dangerous virus, they knew it super contagious, what have they done?

So why is Europe and the US worse off than the rest of China outside of Hubei, despite the obvious geographical distance and having more than a month's time to prepare?

Singapore started screening travelers from Wuhan since Jan 3 and formed a multi-ministry taskforce on Jan 22 (which means the planning and coordination must have been done before that) before the first imported case is confirmed on Jan 23. Contact tracing team was also set-up.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singap...singapore-avoid-non-essential-travel-to-wuhan

On the same day the first imported case is confirmed, Singapore started acquiring facilities to prepare for quarantine centers should the numbers spike in the coming months. Many measures followed after that, such as reactivating 900+ clinics (PHPC scheme) which are decentralized over the island to better detect and isolate cases.

But what have the US and Europe been doing in the meantime? Basically inaction.

Why? Complacency.

As a country, we’ve got our hands full right now. But while we’re sitting in various forms of self-quarantine, we — and a lot of other people around the world — will have a lot of time to read about the Chinese government destroying samples and suppressing information about the coronavirus in December:

Chinese laboratories identified a mystery virus as a highly infectious new pathogen by late December last year, but they were ordered to stop tests, destroy samples and suppress the news, a Chinese media outlet has revealed.

A regional health official in Wuhan, centre of the outbreak, demanded the destruction of the lab samples that established the cause of unexplained viral pneumonia on January 1. China did not acknowledge there was human-to-human transmission until more than three weeks later.

The detailed revelations by Caixin Global, a respected independent publication, provide the clearest evidence yet of the scale of the cover-up in the crucial early weeks when the opportunity was lost to control the outbreak.

And the Chinese government’s attempt to silence doctors warning others about the disease:

As word of a mysterious virus mounted, Li Wenliang shared suspicions in a private chat with his fellow medical school graduates.

The doctor said that seven people seemed to have contracted SARS — the respiratory illness that spread from China to more than two dozen countries and left hundreds dead in the early 2000s. One patient was quarantined at his hospital in Wuhan, China, Li said. He urged people to be careful.

Li and seven other doctors were quickly summoned by Chinese authorities for propagating “rumors” about SARS-like cases in the area — but their warnings were prescient. Soon, health officials worldwide would be scrambling to combat a novel virus with a striking genetic resemblance to SARS.

And the Chinese authorities spending January “denying it could spread between humans — something doctors had known was happening since late December — and went ahead with a Chinese Lunar New Year banquet involving tens of thousands of families in Wuhan.” Doctors say that in Wuhan, people who had no connection to that Hua’nan market were among the first showing the symptoms — suggesting that from the beginning, Chinese authorities should have understood that human-to-human transmission was already happening.

Even by the Chinese government’s own account of events, President Xi Jinping knew about the disease for two weeks before making any public comments about it.

Under fire for its response to the coronavirus epidemic, China’s authoritarian government appears to be pushing a new account of events that presents President Xi Jinping as taking early action to fight the outbreak that has convulsed the country.

But in doing so, the authorities have acknowledged for the first time that Mr. Xi was aware of the epidemic and involved in the response nearly two weeks before he first spoke publicly about it — and while officials at its epicenter in the city of Wuhan were still playing down its dangers.

The Wall Street Journal calculates that the Chinese government “let some five million people leave Wuhan without screening.” Chinese medical authorities were much more concerned about preserving Wuhan’s reputation than the contagious, deadly disease:

The hospital’s leadership also banned staff from discussing the disease in public or via texts or images, Dr. Ai Fen said. Eight days later, a nurse in her department started to feel sick, and it was later confirmed she was infected by the coronavirus. By early March, three doctors at the hospital had died from the infection.

Even today, prominent Chinese citizens who criticize the government’s response suddenly disappear. The Chinese government is much more effective at stopping the spread of information about the coronavirus than stopping the spread of the coronavirus. Pardon me, the “Wuhan virus.”

We are in this mess in large part because of the decisions of the Chinese government. And once it’s safe to come out, we’re going to face some extremely consequential decisions about how we choose to treat the Chinese government after their catastrophic secrecy, coverups, blundering, and disregard for human life around the globe.

I believe it is only propaganda for the coming election. If it is the real mentality from American leaders, then good luck.

Now America cannot control its fate and is at the mercy of China or Russia.

A federal class-action lawsuit has been filed against the Chinese government "for damages suffered as a result of the coronavirus pandemic."

The Berman Law Group, based in Boca Raton, filed the lawsuit Thursday in Miami federal court.

According to the complaint, the People's Republic of China and the city of Wuhan, where the outbreak began, are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

"The PRC and the other defendants knew that COVID-19 was dangerous and capable of causing a pandemic, yet slowly acted, proverbially put their head in the sand and/or covered it up for their own economic self-interest," attorney Matthew Moore wrote in the lawsuit.

Two Miami-Dade County residents and two Palm Beach County residents are listed as plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, "named plaintiffs have been in close proximity to the negligent conduct causing their injuries."

"Chinese officials knew by Jan. 3 that COVID-19 was transmitted human to human and patients started dying a few days later," Moore said in a news release announcing the lawsuit. "Yet they kept telling the people of Wuhan and the world at large that everything was fine, even holding a public dinner in Wuhan for over 40,000 families on Jan. 18."

The lawsuit seeks billions of dollars in compensatory damages for those who have suffered personal injuries, wrongful deaths, property damage and other damages as a result of China's failure to contain the coronavirus.

"This is an ambitious action against a world superpower," firm co-founder Russell Berman said. "But China has unleashed a pandemic upon the world, and the harm is now exponentially multiplying every day here in the U.S. and Florida."

Chinese state was aware of the fact that something was wrong in Wuhan back in the November 2019. Chinese state attempted cover-up of this disease until the situation grew out of control in Wuhan. By the time movements to- and from- Wuhan were curtailed, the virus COVID-19 had breached numerous boundaries worldwide. This was issue # 1.

Then one fine day, Chinese FM issued a controversial tweet pinning the blame on USA and politicizing this tragedy. This was issue # 2.

Now the cat is out of the bag; expect Americans to respond in kind. And this will go far beyond tweets.

Moral of the story is not to politicize a calamity but WE live in a world where morals no longer carry much weight.

In fact, many Chinese citizens are upset with how Chinese state handled this crisis early on. Even now critics of Chinese state disappear without notice

I am sorry but Chinese state is not a Farishta and WE must learn to call a spade a spade. Everything is not hindjewzion sazish. There are bigger forces at play in this world (i.e. divine); bats are chief carriers of coronavirus Family of viruses.

what happened to CN economy before nCov ?? 2/3 factories in Guangdong r leaving CN (to VN), making million CNese workers jobless.

Things r just much worse to CN when nCov brokeout

Maersk, the world’s biggest container shipper, confirmed in an email to Reuters it had laid off 2,000 workers through “one-on-one” phone calls and WeChat messages.

In November, the company warned the trade war between China and the United States would hit demand for container shipping as the volume of goods shipped slides.

Two subsidiaries of China’s COSCO Shipping, in a direct response to the trade war, have reduced the number of vessels in Guangdong, causing a plunge in regional shipping freight turnover, according to Guangdong’s statistics bureau.

“I heard most container factories started letting people go on leave early this year, so I felt it was normal for us to have a few more days off as well,” said Wang, who earned a base salary of 3,900 yuan ($574) per month.

Around the Lunar New Year holiday, this year scheduled for early February, millions of Chinese, including tens of thousands of migrant workers, travel back home for family reunions in what is the world’s largest annual human migration.

While many factories traditionally close ahead of China’s most important holiday, Reuters interviews with more than a dozen workers, business owners, labor activists and trade lawyers revealed businesses are shutting earlier than usual this year as the prolonged trade war curtails orders.

A recent Reuters visit to three once-thriving towns in Dongguan in Guangdong province showed clear signs of a slowdown. Scores of shops and restaurants were shuttered, some factories idled and many up for rent.

Danny Lau, a Hong Kong factory owner in Dongguan, said some businesses had closed around 40 days ahead of Lunar New Year.

“Dongguan used to be bursting with factory workers but now with factories gone, people are gone as well,” one taxi driver told Reuters.

“This complex used to be full of workers, eating and chatting when they got off work. Now look at this,” he said, pointing to empty dark alleys in an open air dining place one recent weekday evening.

EXPORTS FALL
The slowdown comes as data on Monday showed China’s exports unexpectedly fell the most in two years in December and imports also contracted, pointing to further weakness in the world’s second-largest economy in 2019.

Policy sources told Reuters last week China plans to set a lower economic growth target of 6-6.5 percent this year compared with last year’s target of “around” 6.5 percent.

A recent UBS China survey of 200 manufacturing companies with significant export business or supply to exporters revealed the trade war has had a negative impact on 63 percent of those businesses.

A quarter of those affected have cut jobs, 37 percent have moved production out of China in the past 12 months, while 33 percent plan to move in the next 6-12 months.
