Was the Bangladeshi MIG 29's necessary?

1. This thread has unnecessarily veered into an India - BD tussle. The truth is very simple. If BD was a walk over then India would have gulped us long ago. But BD is internally stout. It has been a beehive for any invader. And in the end the Brahmonic oligarch of Delhi will loose total control of the Eastern zone from Rajmahal Hills on. As it is, all of the East and NE are already up in arms against the Delhi establishment.

2. India suffers from a serious identity crisis. She believes she is already a superpower but nobody else believes so. And having been a subjugated people for a millennium Indians like to assert themselves in inflated manner which no body likes. The inferiority complex left behind by a thousand years of enslavement irritate her neighbors. There is no neighbor who likes India. In fact India and Indians are not popular anywhere. In BD people loath them, and are suspicious of elements trying to befriend them.

3. That is the hard truth which had to be said. It is best we move ahead with discussing BAF and BD's Armed Forces.

You need to get a reality check mate, go to dhaka and ask around. The truth is those over 55 the majority still have good feelings to india, the older generation still remember the war of independence, but these are dying out fast, real fast. The younger generation who will take over soon have really bad impression of india, lots of negative media news, etc.

So you see, the passage of time is not on your side, either india decides to bring in policies that get them better preception or except the reality.

Ask any Arab about their view on US and 90% of them will have negative views, but that didn't stop from Arab Govts from flocking to US for support and cooperation. The moral of the story is that Govts deal with other Govts not with the people. So as long as GoB remains pro-India, GoI gives a damn about what an ordinary Bangladeshi in Dacca thinks.

No government lasts forever! "GoI gives a damn about what an ordinary Bangladeshi in Dacca thinks" and that in essence shows what indians think of Bangladesh.

So please don't complain when Bangladeshis bad mouth india.

I hope BD posters know that BD is not considered very highly in India as well, to say the least. The onus is not just on India to improve relations. BD posters seem to think that it is some sort of obligation on India to keep BD happy because of their inflated importance. It is equally important for BD to keep India happy as for India to keep BD happy.

I would also advise BD posters to understand that bad relations are a result of bad deeds done on both sides of the border. And it takes 2 hands to clap.

That being said, both GoI and GoB are trying to mend relations by acting on each others concerns. The current GoB has done a lot to curb terrorists from using BD as a base to attack India. GoI has said in official statements that they are happy and grateful for this. As a gesture GoI is also trying to help out BD by grants, ordering BSF to reduce firing, etc. The final push will come when the border disputes are settled, which should be done soon as both sides want a genuine settlement.

Lastly, the original poster was correct, if BD maintains good relations with India and Mayanmar, it really does not need heavy arms, maybe a strong navy, but thats it. India has no ambitions to take over BD.

BD is lucky that it has no enemy as per my view. No Country can attack BD before facing India. As India is @ all 4 side including Bay of Bengal. So India will act like a Very Very Strong Protection Shell by 500-1,000 Km on all 4 side. Indeed, 3,000 Km from West / South.

Few BD posters are giving so much importance to themselves. BD is no strategic point for India. Not even 1%. Be it Economy, Location, Natural Resources. Anything. Indeed, It will be huge disadvantage for India. Current Population of BD is 4 times than India/Pakistan as per Area. Illegal Immigrants will increase from 20-30 Million to 170 Million. Rest i don't want to talk. All kind of Problems will increase rapidly. Hence, India can never never think of Invading BD even in dreams.

Although every country has right to defend including BD. Hence, she can improve it's defence system. But What if India attacks (Which is next to Impossible) ? It will be Unstoppable as India has 10 Big bases with full capability all 4 side. MIG 29 will be outdated after few years. ( It has so much of bases because of Obvious reason not for BD) and it will more better year by year.

Hence, In Either case - No Advantage for BD. (Although It's BD's money, So they have right to do so). BD should develop good relations with every country like Switzerland.

Rest depends on them only.

GoI need not bother about what bangladeshis think, Govt of BD does not need to bother about what Indians think. As long as there good people to people relation and govt to govt relation, respective govt will explain to their citizen their position.
Does US or Russia govt bothers about ordinary Indian's reaction.

Here are some internally not so stout countries: bhutan, maldives, nepal and srilanka. And no India wont gulp them.
And look at yourself, what will India get out of you.
I think you should concentrate on what is good for bd instead of bothering what GoI think. GoI thinks in mysterious ways :)

Comparing yourself with the USA, whoa there buddy !!! :woot:

You realize folks in USA uses toilet, Indian people, they go out in the open and be with nature, they literally answer nature's call !!

Stop comparing yourselves to the US of A  They are light-years ahead of you in terms of technology and power.

We are not Arabs. Bangladeshis (any South Asian) are far more industrious than those pitiful Arabs.

Yep, Sikim was independent too once, small and defenceless, look what happed to it. History teaches us trust india at your peril.

I graduated from there. Now in Dhaka working. Planning to go back to do MBA and job.

Off topic: Depends on the area. In Uttara or Bashundara for example, a 1500 Sqft. apartment would cost BDT 10,000,000 at best.

Thanks Zabanya, sorry i thought you were in bangkok, wanted to know the price in bangkok. Hope you do your MBA, and good luck.

People of sikkim overwhelmingly wanted to be in India. Thats why even though so many secession movement in India in various places, you wont see anything in sikkim. We did not gulp sikkim, they wanted to be with us.

You neither want to be with us, nor you are useful to us. What extra we will get, that we are not getting already from you? Why take extra burden and headache?

What trust are you talking about. Did GoI give any assurance that they wont attack bangladesh, or will help bangladesh if any other country attacks?

^ O Really?
Lets do a little bit of magnifications here and there, shall we?

King Palden Thondup Namgyal, the Chogyal of Sikkim was in his palace on the morning of 6 April, 1975 when the roar of army trucks climbing the steep streets of Gangtok brought him running to the window. There were Indian soldiers everywhere, they had surrounded the palace, and short rapid bursts of machine gun fire could be heard. Basanta Kumar Chhetri, a 19-year-old guard at the palace's main gate, was struck by a bullet and killed-the first casualty of the takeover. The 5,000-strong Indian force didn't take more than 30 minutes to subdue the palace guards who numbered only 243. By 12.45 it was all over, Sikkim ceased to exist as an independent kingdom.

Captured palace guards, hands raised high were packed into trucks and taken away, singing: "Dela sil, li gi, gang changka chibso" (may my country keep blooming like a flower). But by the, the Indian tri-colour had replaced the Sikkimese flag at the palace where the 12th king of the Namgyal dynasty was held prisoner. "The Chogyal was a great believer in India. He had huge respect for Mahatma Gnadhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. Not in his wildest dreams did he think India would ever swallow up his kingdom," recalls Captain Sonam Yongda, the Chogyal's aide-de-camp. Nehru himself had told journalist Kuldip Nayar in 1960: "Taking a small country like Sikkim by force would be like shooting a fly with a rifle." Ironically it was Nehru's daughter Indira Gandhi who cited "national interest" to make Sikkim the 22nd state in the Indian union.

Now for example look at the comments on this videos, seem quite sikimese(or whatever) to me....

Well I've read somewhere that the king dreamt of bringing Sikkim into the United Nations.

So much for "sikkim overwhelmingly wanted to be in India."
Guess I'll never understand the march of the programmed nerds.
Anyways BD isn't the same as those unfortunate countries
so we'll keep our funky way of life just in tune to enjoy our day.
