Tamim Iqbal raises bat after scoring fifty
Chittagong, Feb 12 (bdnews24.com)Bangladesh brushed off Canada by a nine-wicket victory in their first warm-up match in Chittagong on Saturday.
Tigers lost their only wicket of Tamim Iqbal Khan when he was bowled out at 69 in the day-night match at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Tamim spent 50 balls.
Another opener Imrul Kayes was unbeaten with 39 runs when Bangladesh won at 19.2 overs. Junaid Siddique added 1.
Earlier, after winning the toss Bangladesh chose to field. Canada crumbled at 112. The decision seemed right as the tigers grabbed three early wickets in just 10 overs for 31 runs.
In his innings, Tamim scored three sixes and slapped the ball seven times out of the boundary.
Rizwan Cheema was the only successful bowler who sent back Tamim on the 17th over.
Kayes scored five boundaries in his 57-ball innings.
In Canada's innings, which lasted a bit more than 37 overs, captain Ashish Bagai was the leading scorer with 30 runs.
Bangladesh bowlers were economic in giving runs. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan picked up three wickets for just five runs, while Shafiul Islam, Mahmudullah Riyad and Rubel Hossain took two wickets each.
Shafiul gave five runs and Mahmudullah used four runs against their wickets. In contrast, Rubel was pretty expensive sparing 42 runs in eight overs.
Opener Hira Patel had to leave the field with a duck after Junaid Siddique caught him off Shafiul Islam's bowl.
Abdur Razzak made sure that John Davison did not have much to talk about, sending him off with a catch off Shafiul's ball. The opener scored only two runs.
Ruvindu Gunasekera managed a short six-ball stay on the pitch scoring 13 runs with three boundaries. Shakib showed him the way to the dressing room securing a catch of a delivery by Rubel.
