Walton unveils three new models of automatic washing machine

Local electronics giant Walton has released three new models of automatic washing machine featuring eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and front loading system.

The company unveiled the washing machines, having the capacity of 6.0 kg, 7.0 kg, and 9.0 kg, at a programme held at its corporate office in the capital on Saturday, says a press release received on Sunday.

The ceremony was attended by Walton Group’s Executive Directors Nazrul Islam Sarker, Mohammad Rayhan, and Dr Md Shakhawat Hossen, Deputy Operative Director Mujahidul Islam, Home Appliances Dept’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Atiqul Islam, and Additional Director Khairul Bashar.

Speaking at the event, Mohammad Rayhan said, “Washing machine is no longer a luxury good. It has become an essential item with the improvement of people’s living standard as well as per capita income.”

Walton Washing Machine’s RnD Head Khairul Bashar noted that these new automatic washing machines are equipped with third generation convex honeycomb inner drum, built-in inner heater, A triple plus (A+++) energy efficiency, 140-degree wide angel super large door, noise free function, eco-friendly anti-bacterial door seal, fuzzy control system, overheating control, child lock function etc.

Among the new models, the washing machine with 9 kg capacity comes with inverter technology and thus it will be 40 per cent more energy-efficient, said the release.

At present, Walton is manufacturing and marketing a total of 13 models of the washing machine with different capacities. Prices of the semi-automatic models within the capacity of 7.5 kg to 9 kg are set between Tk 13,000 and Tk 14,000 while the automatic washing machine within the capacity of 6 to 12.5 kg is priced between Tk 22,000 and Tk 45,000.

Customers can buy Walton washing machine at installment with only 20 percent down-payment system.

The company is providing five years warranty for the motors, three years warranty for other spare parts, and five years of home after-sales services.

Yah just like the refrigerators to thailand model dating back to 2015 news cycle. A little trial export, egged on by the chinese OEMs (to take advantage of 0% duty BD has compared to China)...and nothing from BD materialises in the next few years....given chinese direct export takes it place once any interested customers figure its just better to bypass and order from OEM in scale.

This is exactly why Walton is shielded (by tariffs) in the original market. The author brings up an excellent point:

Walton is already world-class but also needs protection - the two insistences aren’t compatible with each other.

Obviously enough, the Bangladeshi government cannot protect Walton’s exports. Other countries aren’t going to favour the company with better tariff or import deals after all.

If Walton insists that it really can compete in those foreign markets then, it doesn’t need that protection at home. For it can slug it out with all the other global producers elsewhere - so the company insists - therefore it should be able to do so at home.

You can after all simply see with the TV "exports" too...what materialises....given we saw just how many refrigerators show up in 2017 (plenty of time after 2015 grand announcement):

Bro ... no idea about Nilgiri's expertise level. I am not an expert on electronic households but my personal opinion, the products displayed in your message speaks themselves a lot for their quality. BD is on rise and I wish BD for the development.

Good, that's the spirit. We want confirmation and results, not some media high drama and brochures.

Walton export of refrigerators to Thailand, whats the follow up?

Is there any follow up of export of TV's to germany after the initial media noise? How about the runner bikes to nepal?

What do you think BD external FDI stock level has to be before it can credibly maintain marketing people and crucial related cash flow externally? Think 310 million (decreased from 340 million previous year) is enough for it?

These are serious questions for any analysts interested in actual results (who thus are interested in financial release yearly for some company claiming this and that).

For BD media dreams and 300 taka tea folks, they can imagine and hope whatever they want....as media articles come and no results follow up (and calling out these no-results means you are mean/racist/anti-BD etc).
