What's new

Walton fridge sales up by 30pc in Jan-July.

.
I would not say, it is awfully small.Bangladesh is where Indonesia was in 2014.Current refrigerator sale in Bangladesh is around 2.5 million unit.In 2014, refrigerator sale in Indonesia was over 3 million.Note that, Indonesia has 60 percent more population than Bangladesh.

Because the year u used as comparison is not at the peaks of total sales, in 2013 Indonesia got more than 4,5 million sales and decreasing to 3,6 milion unit in 2014 and keep decreasing to 2016. Interesting notes is although the volume in number keep decreasing but total sales revenue for major produser keep increasing as people chose the more expensive of double door refrigator and starting to abandon their single door units. This article is in Bahasa but you can get the figure

I just don't understand why it's not mandatory for Bangladeshi big companies to keep their financial accounts public?

Even African nations have that rule.

Their country. their rules ;)

Problem lies with them trying to compare to others that follow more standardised procedures with intent of chest-thumping or simply to try hide the actual reality better.

One product made in China does not mean the majority. :-)

A _few_ of their niche low-selling product lines (like tablets) may have been China-made.

We are talking Fridges here though.....

So Walton makes TVs?
manufectures LCD screen?
or Chips used on TV boards?
or Design the boards?
or writes the software for it?
or all of the above?

.
Because most big companies in Bangladesh is not publicly traded.

Let me tell you every Indian company has to upload its financial statements, balance sheet online and it's available to public. The company is private public closely held doesn't matter.

That's why we are taking granted that Walton has no data considering it is one of the largest companies in Bangladesh?

Walton introduces country’s first-ever smart fridge
UNB . Dhaka | Update: 00:07, Aug 24, 2017

Walton has introduced the first-ever IoT (Internet of Things) based non-frost refrigerators with inverter technology's compressor of Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The local brand has termed it as 'smart fridge' as the users from any corner of the world can monitor Walton smart fridge's power consumption units, daily or monthly electricity bill of it, compressors condition like overload or normal, power connection situation like on or off, and high or low voltage supply to it in their mobile phone.

The Walton authorities introduced it in a programme at the conference room of Walton head office in the capital.

Initially, only one model of smart refrigerator is released in the local market with a cost of Tk53,200. More models, however, will be brought soon.

The function was attended by Walton Group executive director and chief coordinator of marketing Eva Rezwana, head of marketing Amdadul Hoque Sarker, senior operative director Uday Hakim, senior deputy operative director Abdul Malek Sikder and other high officials of the company.

I was trying to search for Financials of Walton Bangladesh.

@Nilgiri Walton is just a con company who is fooling gullible Bangladeshis who think they will fool Non-Bangladeshis here.

This Company just spends money on graphics and some free lancer written articles ($1 for 100 words) (who google out and add the latest buzz words in their articles).:coffee:

Walton makes (manufactures mostly from scratch) refrigerators (even smart IoT refrigerators), Aircons, LED-screen TVs (LCD-screen is older technology), LED Bulbs, Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Batteries for inverter lamps and solar installations, Domestic Switchgear, Fans and assembles other small home electrics (kitchen and household blenders, friers, irons etc.) from local and Chinese components.

No company I know (even brand-name companies making OEM TVs for US market) manufactures SMD components used in TV Boards. Neither does Walton. But they do design and make their own boards and place SMDs using pick-and-place machines and wave-soldering machines.

I doubt they make their own LED screens AFAIK. LED screens need very sophisticated clean rooms and they haven't invested in it yet - most probably because buying overseas is probably cheaper for their current volume.

So good that Bangadesh is growing .
It's good news for india too.

Prosperity of Bangladesh is intrinsically linked to india and Eastern india will gain a lot from it too.

Every Product made in Dhaka has best export potential is Kolkata or Panta , not in far away Chengdu in China.

Indian govt and companies should work double hard to find export markets for indian products as well as invest in Bangladesh. All ingredients are ready and time to move fast.

Sub continent is above 1.6 Billion people , given the humongous size they need not look any country outside for trade and commerce before cater to the people of the sub continent.

First, Walton is not one of the largest companies in Bangladesh by any measure (there are way bigger companies by revenue)....I know them personally. Walton is the first real Bangladeshi electronics and white goods "brand" which understands the concept of brand building.

Its a 3A rated company with very big ambitions (started in the late 70s), the senior management are very smart and they have a good growth plan. It follows the import, assemble and manufacture business model in most of its product range, but now has built a good RnD section for locally designed goods.

As for financial statements, each country has their own rules and regulations, private companies are not required to make public financial information unless there are traded shares. Financial data though is required to be submitted to the relevant authorities.

The electronic boards are made at the Gazipur factory from sub-components imported from China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia. Bulk of the software is generic (android, free BSD etc), but there are good developers who custom develop applications (IoT and recently some Ai research).
