Walmart refuses to place fresh orders with Pakistan

Tesco is not any different with walmart, by the way, can Foreign companies can open super market in India??

Technically they can in certain states that allow 51% FDI in retail. But no major retailer has jumped in so for.India will be a tough market to crack. So they are taking their time.On single brand retail many investment are already pouring in.IKEA proposal of around $ 1 billion was recently approved.

May be China should do that as India, allow 51% FDI in retail instead of leting them open super market freely

They developed those seeds. And patented it.

Our farmers are used to the age old system, where they can get the seeds from previous crops. They are free to do so for natural seeds, but for modified one? Some one spent lot of money and resources in developing those modified seeds. And he want to do business with it. For those who do not like to pay him, should not use his development.

Problem arises when govt force the farmers to use those seeds, and this is wrong.

like i said this is bad, no corporation should be allowed to do this(not letting farmers save their own seed).
it is something mankind doesnt need. 100 years down the road it will be corporations controlling literally everything to do with food if this is allowed to happen.

nothing absurd bout what he wrote maybe you should do your research
I'm not bringing in facts. You guys are trying to make a statement so provide some source to those facts....."Back your facts with a verifiable source" is what I learnt at my high school.

Pulling stuff from the rear doesn't count :laughcry:

I don't know.Such policies should to be taken considering interest of the local people.AFAIK,western supermarket brands haven't had a big success in China.China is too big and too diverse make a nationwide presence quickly.Case about India is similar,In India Govt wants to improve back end infra in the retail sector, which is IMO abysmal. But don't want to hurt mom and pop stores which offers a huge middle class vote bank.So they have to take measures thank protect the interests of their voters and in the same time attracting much needed FDI.That's why the 51% FDI cap.

After recent amendment they can own 51% in Multi-brand store (like Walmart) n 100% in single brand stroes(like Ikea). But there r many restrictions on it like they can't open stores in cities with less then a 1 Million population, Atleast 30% local sourcing from small traders, etc. etc.

So uptill now they haven't opened any retail store in India. However, more n more Indian Multi-brand stores r coming up so even if the did they'll face stiff competition.

For now they operate only as Cash n carry stores(wholesale) but no foreign retail store is operational or underconstruction in India.:)

Walmart is the most fcked up retail chain in the world. I would be more than happy to see them getting away from Pakistan

Angoor khatte hai........Your manufacturing order proposal is in Walmart dustbin now..............

FYI...Walmart is the biggest and most successful retail chain in the world history....

In china, walmart has 400 supermarkets, while TESCO has 105 supermarkets, carrerour has 219 supermarkets, they really have a big success in China even faced with strong Local enterprises

So, is it advantage India? I wonder if Walmart will fill the gap from Indian manufacturers?

But then someone would need to bribe Walmart....No problem. Our honchos are past masters at that! :P

Textile goods made in bangladesh is duty free import for wall mart . I seriously doubt the money save with this exemption can be made up by Indian Honchos.

Pakistanis had no chance and they knew it

I have heard that the biggest retail store in China is a Chinese store named Sun.
