Chacha Pakistani, the man who come rain or shine would reach the Wagah Border for the flag ceremony, passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday.

If you have ever been to the Wagah Border, you would have seen Chacha Pakistani dressed in the Pakistani flag and waving one around too.

His real name was Mehar Din. He was born in 1922 and was unmarried. While his brothers migrated to Pakistan at the time of its creation, Chacha came here post partition. He had no home of his own and lived with his nephews.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Chacha Pakistani’s nephew said: “Ever since we were born, we have seen him go there [Wagah Border] routinely.”

“He loved military rule and disliked democratic governments,” the nephew added. Former president Parvaiz Musharraf had sent him for Umrah on a political quota.

He also revealed that his uncle had no source of income and made a living out of money people would hand him at the border.

Living some 40km away, he would hitch hike to Wagah every day, getting out of one car and getting into another – willing to even walk to reach his destination.
Chacha Pakistani had also received awards and certificates from Rangers and other officials visiting the border.

Devoted to Pakistan and a true patriot, Chacha Pakistani went to the border everyday adorned in his kurta made out of a flag of Pakistan.

He had this eccentricity, his nephew said, where he believed the flag of Pakistan should never touch the ground. They said he was almost scared of it happening.

The cause of his death remains vague as his family did not have money to take him to a hospital. All that is known is that he had had a fever and cough since the past few days.

Amazingly, no one from the border wanted to know why the man who religiously went there every day had stopped coming.

Chacha’s hometown was a village in Punjab called Chandrai where he will be laid to rest today, wrapped in his beloved green and white flag.

Correction: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated that Chacha Pakistani was born in 1992. The error has been fixed.

When one has no skill he can go down a path which can either be useless constructive or useless destructive among many others inbetween. This man made the best of something he was handed down and we should respect him. The path to the dark side is way more lucrative and easy. This man gave his eccentric behavior a positive goal no matter how useless it is for this country. Just add to that and bring to this country which he could not and honor his memory. Or you could stay in some other country and make fun of him, to me both those are pretty useless approaches to professing ones love for a country. But one will earn my undying pride while the other would be hypocritical disgust.

All of his devotion resulted in exactly what benefit to state?
Can someone shed light?
I would term this man as a crazy case and actually advice mental rehab!

Remember Dr. Abdul Kadeer. He did a great favor to Pakistan and sacrificed so much but still what he got in return. This is our true face we dont honor our heroes instead we malign them. His age was 90 and hes was there during the time of Independence So he know what it feels like to be independent and without AID and with a good leader like QuaideAzam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

U and I can't feel this energy like him as we were not there. So if u can't say something good atleast just say انا لله وانا اليه راجعون

You sir are a sad man & it is you who need mental rehab. In other thread you said your relatives are running out of Pakistan shutting their business & investing in other countries(when this country Pakistan need the most money), i didn't respond at that thread but i will respond here that it was you along with one other member who called MQM & Muhajirs opportunity seekers who came to Pakistan as a golden opportunity:disagree:. This all shows how you are grown up & how much you love this country. It will be a big favour for us if you remove that Green & White, Cresent & Star flag.

@ Topic, Inna Lillah E Wa Inna Eleh E Rajeoon.

Allah unko Jannat al Firdous mein Jagah naseeb farmaye. Ameen.

All of his devotion just might have induced some sense into your brains, but as we can see, it didnt.

Why do you think people write blogs which no one ever reads? Why do you think people maintain personal diaries which on one, even their family would never read?

i think you have never been to Wahga, why do you think Chacha Cricket is always present at every match? Or to give a more subtle example, why do you think people even color their faces with their country's flag during various sports when probably no one expect those sitting besides them would look at them?

As they say, almost all of their reasons for doing such things are probably of personal nature, but then just one of such guys might become a reason for others to do things that they might have never done or would ever do, had they not been influenced by these so called 'psychopaths'.
