If you think Turkey shot this plane down without the US's blessing, you are incredibly naive. Turkey doesn't have the freedom to move an inch without first consulting the United States and they had tacit approval to carry out their actions. I think Russia should be more mindful of borders and keep it's planes confined to certain parts of Syria or else these will be the consequences.

Russian fighters ever violated Turkey airspace.
They get warning over and over again. The wise move is stay away from common border, but they didn't follow.

A Russian warplane violated Turkish airspace near the Syrian border on Saturday, prompting the Air Force to scramble two F-16 jets to intercept it, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
The Foreign Ministry summoned Moscow's ambassador to protest the violation, according to an e-mailed statement. Turkey urged Russia to avoid repeating such a violation, or it would be held "responsible for any undesired incident that may occur."

The Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement saying that the plane, an SU-30 Flanker fighter jet, had strayed into Turkish airspace as a “consequence of unfavorable weather conditions,” and that Russian forces had “taken necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in [the] future.”
NATO, however, said two Russian jets had crossed into Turkish airspace, the SU-30 on Saturday and an SU-24 Fencer bomber on Sunday.
The Western alliance implied that the incursions were an intentional provocation.
“The aircraft in question entered Turkish airspace despite Turkish authorities’ clear, timely and repeated warnings,” a NATO statement said. “Allies strongly protest these violations of Turkish sovereign airspace, and condemn these incursions into and violations of NATO airspace. Allies also note the extreme danger of such irresponsible behavior.”

Their aircrafts are not passenger airliner like the Boeing 747 they shot down in 1983.
