Visa not garnted to director for Mukhtaran Mai documentary

Sir, with all due respect, that is exactly what image management is all about.

If you want to protect your country's image, you have to highlight the help that this lady got in your country. Banning a potential movie director (who is a part of the western media) from covering this story will just reinforce the negative stereotypes. I don't know, maybe efforts could have been made to help the director to sort out the flaws in her story.

Like it or not, the world is going to judge you. It is up to you what image of your country you want to project.

Protectionism leads to a gutter. We have to open our gates in order to learn.

we should let this women in so that she can show how courageous pakistani women can be in the face of such massive odds. We should all be proud of Muktara Mai.

it has already been highlighted enough. and it has been highlighted for years now.
has anyone ever come to highlight the gud part of the society? no. bec it doesnt sell. when that is so then wat humanitarian effort are we talking about here.
and lik i said there has been many such things done by US soldiers in iraq and afghanistan. y not go shoot that first?
this biased attitude when it comes to serving the humanity is of no gud.

No one is serving humanity here. Everyone works for their own benefit. The sooner you accept that, the better that will be for you.

Why should a westerner come and highlight good parts about you? He/she has to cater to their target audiences, which unfortunately, is not you. Their target audience does not want information which challenges their mindsets. What they want is 'masala' or something which reinforces the stereotypes in their minds.

Let me give you an example. You might not want to read about the Mukhtaran Mai story. Yet, you might be very interested in the Shopian case.

It is up to you to ensure that the truth/your point of view gets out there. No one will help you with that. Shutting up shop and refusing entry to media persons will definitely not help. I hope you get my point.

well if they are only serving their interests then they better not come. let them cry for few weeks and ppl will forget about it. no need to assist them in their agendas.

And what message are you sending out then? That not only are there a few bad elements in Pakistan (just like every other society), but the entire establishment is regressive in nature.

That impression will not die in a few weeks, negative perceptions last a long time.

If you are fine with that, I have nothing more to say.

Before I answer, let me just point out that it was you who brought India into this discussion and not me.

Indian movies have highlighted the rape issues enough. We are quite open about it. Movies like Damini have been blockbusters. Recently, a movie addressing the issues of marital rape was released called 'Mittal vs Mittal'. Aishwarya Rai portrayed the role of an abuse victim in the movie Provoked. And this lists just few from the top of my mind.

You don't want this crap? Fine, then don't watch it. But stop thinking that Pakistan is a special country who everyone is hell bent on defaming. Last year's oscar winner highlighted almost EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE STEREOTYPE against India. You just have to be open to criticism and take it positively.

really glad to see such diversified views of Pakistani fellows

One says - She is profiting from her Gang rape
Second says - She is a symbol of pride for Pakistan

A part of history? Really? Is this going to be a Da Vinci Masterpiece which will be remembered for centuries? Oh I know, the director would be awarded the Nobel prize for making a documentary.:argh::argh:
:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

Congratulations. I tried to be the voice of reason but such immature comments from a freaking 'Moderator' have driven me off this thread. Go ahead and live in your fantasy world.
