BANGALORE, India — India batsman Virender Sehwag has won the International Cricket Council's player of the year award.

Sehwag scored 1,282 Test runs at 85.46 in 10 tests in the 12-month voting period to August. India won six of the Tests and drew two.

His India teammates Sachin Tendulkar and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also made the ICC's Test team of the year, which featured three South Africans, two Englishmen and two Australians.

England fast bowler Steven Finn won the emerging player award and South Africa batsman AB de Villiers won the one-day player of the year award.

While Sachin Tendulkar has been named the ICC Player of the Year, Virender Sehwag won the ICC Test Player of the Year in the ICC Awards ceremony being held in Bangalore.

Sehwag also features in the Test team of the Year captained by MS Dhoni. Kumar Sangakkara, Graeme Swann, Sachin Tendulkar, Hashim Amla, Simon Katich, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis and Doug Bollinger were the other members of the winning team.


Ricky Ponting was named the captain of the ODI team of the Year which has Tendulkar, Shane Watson, Michael Hussey, AB de Villiers, Paul Collingwood, Dhoni, Daniel Vettori, Suart Broad, Bollinger and Ryan Harris as the other members.

AB de Villiers, who is currently the top-ranked ODI batsman, was also adjudged as the ICC ODI Player of the Year beating Tendulkar, Harris and Watson.

The award for the best Twenty20 performance of the year went to Brendon McCullum’s unbeaten 116 against Australia in Christchurch. McCullum was chosen ahead of other nominees, Michael Hussey, Mahela Jayawardene and Ryan McLaren.

Rookie England fast bowler Steven Finn bagged the Emerging Player of the Year award after Mohammed Aamer’s name was removed from the nominees list following the spot-fixing scandal. The 21-year-old Finn, since making his debut in March, against Bangladesh, has taken 32 wickets in eight Tests.


Netherlands allrounder Ryan ten Doeschate has won the ICC Associate Player of the Year award. ten Doeschate's performances during the English domestic season has made him a sought after player in international Twenty20 competitions. He has been signed by Tasmania for the Big Bash and by Canterbury for New Zealand's domestic tournament.

New Zealand once again walked away with the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award and Pakistan’s Aleem Dar was adjudged the best Umpire of the Year for second consecutive time.

Rachel Heyhoe-Flint, the former England women's captain, is the first woman cricketer inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame.

NEW DELHI: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has won the ICC Cricketer of the Year Award in the ICC Annual Award held in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Sachin also won the People's Choice Award, the category which was introduced for the first time by the ICC. This award was chosen by cricket fans around the world who voted for their favourite player on-line from a short-list of five cricketers selected by the ICC selection panel on the basis of some really innovative parameters, in sync with the values that embody brand LG.

Whereas Indian opener Virender Sehwag won the Test Player of the Year and South African AB de Villiers bagged the ODI Player of the Year.

Team India won the Test Team of the Year whereas Australia bagged the ODI Team of the Year Award.

England fast bowler Steven Finn has won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award at the LG ICC Awards ceremony in Bengaluru.

The 21-year-old, who played in six Test matches in the voting period and took 27 wickets at an average of 21.85, has made an immediate impact within the England side with his extra pace and bounce since making his Test debut in March of this year.

West Indies great Joel Garner was inducted into ICC Hall of Fame in the ceremony.

Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate has become the ICC Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year at the LG ICC Awards in Bengaluru.

The voting academy chose ten Doeschate over other top Associate and Affiliate players including Afghanistan's Mohammed Shahzad and the Ireland duo of Trent Johnston and Kevin O'Brien. It is the second time ten Doeschate has claimed the award, the first time he picked up the title was in 2008.

The LG ICC Awards ceremony is now in its seventh year. The event was staged in association with Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA). Previous ceremonies were held in London (2004), Sydney (2005), Mumbai (2006), Johannesburg (2007 and 2009) and Dubai (2008).

The nominations for seven of the awards was made by a five-man ICC selection panel chaired by ICC Cricket Hall of Fame, former West Indies captain and Chairman of ICC Cricket Committee Clive Lloyd. The panel also includes former India captain Ravi Shastri, former England fast bowler Angus Fraser, ex- Zimbabwe batsman and England coach Duncan Fletcher and former Australia opener Matthew Hayden.
