There is no question of India fighting for Vietnam against China and yet India can do so many things for vietnam.

Remember once China is done with Vietnam , Phillipines, ...it is going to turn against us ...

all India needs to take it to right at door step of China ..just as China is working up in our backyard .

It's like of game of chess ...

This is the right time to further our look east policy .

I understand all this and I would thus be more than happy for India to adopt a hands off policy wherein they will help in the training and arming of the Vietnamese and Philippines forces but I would be against India signing a security pact with them that promised Indian Mil support during conflicts.

The way geopolitics in Asia is shaping up, there will be a cold war of sorts between China and US with India as the balancing power.We should use this leverage to extract concessions from both sides

If push comes to shove, we should choose China over US.

We backed the wrong horse during last century, lets not make the same mistake this time around

If We let China run its own fancy in South China sea to established unopposed supremacy ...sooner or later its going to turn against India for Arunachal Pradesh ...

Countries like Vietnam ,Phillipines with which we did not enjoy very close relations in past are now open and willing . we must make use of this opportunity .

If China can use anti india sentiment in Pakistan ,Sri lanka and so on towards its benefit ..why we can't ?

China is simply playing a game. It knows what it is up against. I am quite happy to see China shocked and surprsed when India and the US decided to engage with each other heavily in the early 2000's. This completely shook the Chinese establishment. The US does acknowledge some of its assessments on China were off. China made tremendous strides in secret.



As soon as China as subdued its neighbors in the East, there will a change in attitudes and approach with India. YOU CAN COUNT ON IT! Like you clearly stated, India needs to engage its far east friends and build relations. The problem is you have a lame duck govt. A Pm who only acts on Sonia's orders, but obviously she knows very, very little. Time for us to wake up.....give Modi that majority he needs or end up with a govt with no teeth to push its urgent reforms.

You will be choosing the wrong horse if you side with China. Your views on the US are distorted. Times have changed, my president is black! China will fuk you over and we all know it. Actions speak louder than words. Tibet will never be free. China has gained the upper had with control of our waters.

Extracting concessions mentality will give us empty alliances. The need of this hour is a clear agenda on how to tackle this menace.

Of course, I am all for India pursuing policies that are beneficial to India's interests. All I am saying is India should avoid at all costs getting dragged into a Vietnam-China conflict. We have seen the effect these sorts of wars can have on large nations (US, USSR etc). Naturally there will be instances when India's interests line up with Veitnam's and cases when they don't.


But would you really want to see Indian Military personal dying for Vietnam?

India will not be able to avoid war at all costs. Doing so will be detrimental for India's image in the long run. We can never expect to be a major power, a nation that invokes real change for the world uness we stand up for what it right and wrong. The US and USSR to this day remain the strongest nations on this planet. Instead, of only focusing on the negatives look at the positives. Where would the UK be without the US? All other interests are BS. The main long term interest is China. Its rise shows it is a bully, only peaceful now because it is not a major ower to reckon with.


China has been supporting Pakistan with evey capability under the sun. MCTR is not legally binding, therefore nations can curtail and give whatever they like. China and Pakistan are both actively working together to bog us down. Our ppl, our soldiers are killed every single day.


Do you wish to continue to see them dying.


Its laughable when you suggest "do you want to see Indian military personnel dying in Vietnam" when they are dying now on our own soil. We will never get a great opportunity to engage our neighbors and build a positive image.
