HANOI — Vietnam will revise up the size of its gross domestic product (GDP) by 25.4% for the 2011-2017 period, the head of General Statistics Office said on Wednesday, in a move that could impact the Communist-ruled country’s strictly controlled debt ceiling.

Earlier this month, Vietnam’s General Statistics Office said it was revising the way it measured GDP to meet international norms and better reflect the real size and structure of the economy.

“We have completed revising the size of the GDP for the 2011-2017 period and have submitted the revision result to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc for approval,” Nguyen Bich Lam, Director of the General Statistics Office told Reuters. “It’s 25.4% higher on average.”

. . . .
You can't compete with China in near or in far future, which is competing with USA/EU/Japan/South etc etc @Viet
We are competing with our fellows in the region not with the 1.4 billion people country. I am disappointed a bit. The Gdp is revised up at the lower end. I had expected 50 or 100 basis points more. Anyway up is up, a stronger military comes with stronger economy. Bro, I see at least 6 more submarines armed with Kalibr missiles are coming.

Not China, Indonesia is the benchmark to beat.

If Apple comes then our Gdp will make a big jump and we will catch up.

Even Jakarta got more gdp than Vietnam

. . . .
The Vietnamese here has set the benchmark Indonesia to beat. Now lets assume hypothetically Vietnam can overtake Indonesia, is China the next benchmark and will Vietnam ever overtake it?

Lots of fake numbers here. But I guess if a McDonalds worker finds a 1 dollar bill their wages went up by 15%, so anything can happen for Vietnam.
