Vietnam, Myanmar strengthen all-round cooperation

(VOV) - Vietnam and Myanmar have agreed to expand cooperation in agro-forestry, fisheries, tree plantations, telecommunications, oil and gas, mining, transport, labour, culture, sports and tourism.
The agreement was reached during talks between host President U Thein Sein and his visiting Vietnamese counterpart Truong Tan Sang in capital Nay Pyi Taw on November 29.
Thein Sein applauded Sang’s State visit, saying that it will significantly contribute to boosting the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
The two leaders vowed to work closely at multilateral forums and support each other’s membership of regional and international organisations. Vietnam will do its utmost and share experiences with Myanmar to help the country successfully chair ASEAN in 2014, Sang said.
They agreed on maintaining peace, stability, security, maritime safety and freedom in the East Sea and settling disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Both sides welcomed the bloc’s Six-point Principles on the East Sea and the Joint Statement of the ASEAN – China Summit celebrating the 10th anniversary of ratifying the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
They agreed to abide by DOC and establish the Code of Conduct of the Parties in the East Sea (COC).
Following the talks, both leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to exchange banking supervision information between the State Bank of Vietnam and the Central Bank of Myanmar, and a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and Myanmar’s Ministry of Energy.

Vietnam–Myanmar trade aims to exceed US$500 million

(VOV) - Both countries should cooperate to fully exploit their complementary advantages and push two-way trade turnover over the US$500 million target.
State President Truong Tan Sang made the remark at the Myanmar-Vietnam business forum on November 30.
Meeting with Myanmar businesses and representatives, Sang said the experiences Vietnamese businesses have gained from the process of renewal and integration will be helpful to their counterparts in Myanmar. Vietnam is willing to foster favourable conditions for foreign investors—including those from Myanmar—to do business in the country, said Sang.
Myanmar businesses praised the Vietnamese market’s potential and expressed a desire to seek investment opportunities and closely collaborate with Vietnamese partners.
President Sang witnessed the signing of several investment cooperation contracts and agreements between Vietnamese and Myanmar businesses over the course of the forum.
President Sang met with Khin Aung Myint—Speaker of Myanmar's Upper House—and Speaker of the Lower House Thura Swe Mann in Nay Pi Taw on the same day. Sang congratulated Myanmar on its recent outstanding political and socio-economic achievements, especially following April’s landmark parliamentary by-elections.

President Sang said the two countries’ legislative bodies ought to expand their cooperative relationship to contribute to advancing the ties of friendship between Vietnam and Myanmar. Vietnam is ready to share its law making and economic development legislation expertise with Myanmar, he noted.
Both Myanmar parliamentary leaders hailed the progress made on furthering bilateral ties, including those between the two parliaments, and agreed to sign bilateral cooperation agreements with the Vietnamese National Assembly.

He urged BIDV and AVIM to broaden their responsibilities, organising trade fairs and conferences with relevant agencies to further promote trade and investment between the two nations.

Meeting with Governor of Yangun Min Sue, he voiced hopes that the two cities will cooperate effectively in the fields of trade, services, tourism, and manufacturing technology to boost their already fruitful ties.
The Yangun Governor committed to supporting Vietnamese businesses as they are seeking investment opportunities and working on their projects in Myanmar and Yangun.
Governor Min Sue hosted a banquet in honour of President Sang and his delegation in the evening of the same day.

YANGON, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's state-owned company -- Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company (VMS) has stepped in Myanmar market, launching a representative office in Yangon, official media reported Friday.
The move shows Vietnam's vision on market opportunities in the Myanmar telecom industry.
Nguyen Dang Nguyen, deputy director of Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company (VMS-MobiFone) and chairman of Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group(VNPT)-Global, said Myanmar is altering daily to encourage foreign investors in different fields, especially the telecommunication and information industry.
VMS, which is leading mobile operator in Vietnam, was founded in 1993 as the first GSM 900/1800 and 3G mobile operator in Vietnam. VMS sells service under the MobiFone brand, being voted as the most favorite network in Vietnam for 6 consecutive years since 2006 at annual Vietnam Mobile Awards ceremonies organized by VietnamNet.
Vietnam's contracted investment in Myanmar hit 41.796 million U. S. dollars in four projects as of July 2012 since Myanmar opened to foreign investment in late 1988, according to Myanmar official statistics.
