Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will make an official visit to Vietnam on November 6 and 7 in a mission to comprehensively strengthen ties between the two countries.

Talks will also include regional and international issues, news website VnExpress cited Vietnam’s foreign affairs spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi as saying.

Vietnamese President Truong Tan San agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Medvedev to bolster all strategic partnerships between the two countries during a visit to Moscow in July.

Sang also said during the visit that Vietnam will allow Russia to build a shipyard for repair and maintenance services at Cam Ranh Port in central Vietnam.

President Putin subsequently ordered Russia to develop stronger military ties with Vietnam, calling it a qualified partner in building and inventing military weapons and equipment.

The decision was made based on various factors, including Vietnam’s US$2 billion order of six Kilo-class submarines in late 2009, which was the most expensive order the Russian Navy has ever received. The first submarine was sent to Vietnam August this year.

Don't worry, since it is South China Sea, we Chinese will take charge of its order, and be careful of that polar bear, just see how Indians were tricked by them...
Russia got her own military strategic in SEA which make Vietnam neighbor itchy. But for the peace of Asia Vietnam needed to able to control SCS, to keep freedom navigation of the seas.

Both.
Russia needs naval base to resupply for their naval ships to protect their oilfields which joint venture with Vietnam in SCS, while the US needs resupply naval base for their ships to protect freedom of navigation in SCS.

Don't worry, since it is South China Sea, we Chinese will take charge of its order, and be careful of that polar bear, just see how Indians were tricked by them...

Dont worry too, we are the traditional trusted partners....

Russian news agencies ITAR-TASS and RIA-Novosti are highlighting the upcoming Vietnam visit by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

The two news agencies noted that Vietnam is Russia’s major trade partner in Asia and the second largest in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Over the last 60 years, 52,000 Vietnamese experts have been trained at universities and colleges of the former Soviet Union and Russia. At present, 6,000 Vietnamese students are studying in Russia, they said, adding that so far this year, the number of Russian visitors to Vietnam has reached 150,000, doubling last year’s figure.

ITAR TASS and RIA-Novosti stressed that the two countries’ promotion of goods and service exchange, investment and the prospect for the signing of the FTA between the Customs Union and ASEAN will help considerably consolidate their positions in Asia-Pacific.-VNA
