Vietnam nominal GDP per capita is revised. Reached $3,000 in 2018

. .
Underground / Underaccount economy in Vietnam is super strong. It is due to the need to evade taxes and the habit of using cash.
In paper, Vietnam appears to be a bit weak, but in reality, money is easy to make.

I believe China can reach high income status within 2 - 3 years, and hopefully, Vietnam is to reach upper middle income status within the same span.

Same with every under-developed countries. If you go to any African forum, they will say "underground economy is very strong" to explain low GDP per capita.

However, this re-calculation did not take into account the so-called "underground economy" in Vietnam..

Same as supa powans lament how small their national wealth is on the table, then talk about trillions they have in Swiss banks.

Ineptitude at best

hmm, so Trump is right to put more taxes on Vietnamese goods and services. They are clearly very rich now

Still extremely poor by any standard. However, a clear achievement, if you consider that in 1990, Vietnam were the world's poorest country, with GDP per capita of $97, and before that, almost 400 - 500 continuous years of civil wars, French occupation and then being bombed to the ground by the US.

Vietnam has great future specially when chinese are rising to next tier of manufacturing and workes becomes more costly, Vietnam will get its hands full in manufacturing its the next in line after Japan-Korea-Taiwan-China in manufacturing based economic prosperity.

I am not so optimistic. North Vietnam can be industrialized, but the South, well, will just become at best, another Indonesia. They are, and forever will be, chaotic, delusional and poorly-skilled.

I want to vomit when watching the music programs by Southerners' so-called "artists" (like Trấn Thành etc.). Chaotic, noisy,... and zero of academic quality. They just imitate some US programs. But now this kind of music are popular even on VTV3.

But the media, including Western media, is still blah blah about Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon) more enterprenership, more energetic, "innovative" or "creative" compared with Hanoi (năng động, sáng tạo etc.). They keep the same shitty arguments for years.

manufacturing doesnt need some highly skilled profession in assembly like if trained rightly an ape can do the job its all about supporting labor laws and easy access to ports and eco system of supply chain, biggest advantage for Vietnam is its closer to china and can closely clone every policy chinese has put up in last few decades, pretty sure Vietnam is where chinese were in early 2000s and by 2030 we can see a Vietnam closely resembling other East Asians economic manufacturing powerhouses.

China, Taiwan, Korea have been manufacturing parts and components for hundred years, so that they can have their own technologies now. Vietnam is doing just assembly. All real industries (steel, machine tools, agricultural machinery) are killed, thanks to policies of Southern "open-minded" leaders.

Congratulations!
A great achievement by the Vietnamese people. Vietnam has incredible potential going forward.

Haha
Actually it’s opposite it is you that constantly does bragging of richness draws some attentions.
Trump throws you out of the group of developing countries. You will no longer enjoy the benefits in trades.
The EU led by Germany will impose duties on the largest export - commodity palm oil, with completely phasing out in few years.

If I was you, I would reduce aggressive rhetoric against us, increasing trades with us. Vietnam has great demand in natural resources and palm oil.
