Vietnam and Cuba have agreed to take measures to boost their defense cooperation to the next level of development in the future, for the sake of the two countries, armies, and peoples.

The agreement was reached at a meeting between Vietnamese Minister of Defense General Phung Quang Thanh and visiting Minister of Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces Senior Lieutenant General Leopoldo Cintra Frias in Hanoi on Sunday.

The Cuban official and his entourage arrived in the Southeast Asian country on December 16 for a friendship visit through to December 23 at the invitation of General Thanh, who is also a member of the Politburo and deputy secretary of the Party Central Committee's Military Commission.

During the talks, the host and guest reviewed the outcomes of the bilateral cooperation based on a defense agreement signed between the two sides in 2011 and another on the same matter for 2014-16.
They also discussed orientations for the two countries' bilateral cooperation in the coming time as well as other issues of mutual concern.

General Thanh said Vietnam always remembers the valuable support that Cuba had provided for the Southeast Asian country during its past struggle for national independence as well as in its construction and defense cause at present.

The Vietnamese general expressed his belief that the visit will help boost the bilateral cooperation and the friendly relationship between the two armies and peoples.

Senior Lieutenant General Leopoldo Cintra Frias said his visit is expected to contribute to the consolidation of the traditional relationship between the two countries in general and the two armies in particular.

The Cuban official extended his congratulations on the 70th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and the country’s achievements in its development process.

The host and guest shared the same view that the objective of the Vietnam-Cuba relation is to help each other enhance their respective defense capabilities in order to ensure sovereignty and territorial integrity, and protect their political systems, the peaceful life of their people, and their prosperous development.

This is the first Vietnam visit by the Cuban official as the Minister of Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.

This man rushed to China to pay tribute to Chairman Mao on the occasion of PRC's 10 years old birthday.

China’s valuable support was essential for Vietnam’s independence, reunification, and socialist construction. Older generation of Chinese still remember how China gave huge amount of rice to Vietnam while at home Chinese people were starving. Unfortunately, it only turned out a bunch of ungrateful and resentful people. To China, Chinese government, and Chinese people, this kind of stupid thing won’t happen again!

China should build a military base in Cuba, they are communist brothers.

Phidel Castro visited South Vietnam in time of cold war 1973. Cuba is trusted friend of Vietm.

Meaningless gesture. Neither country is able to help the other in any significant military issues.

Thats what i was about to say. I dont see Vietnam having anything much to offer Cuba at all. Even Cuba diesnt really have much to offer Vietnam, well apart fromits medical expertise and thats it. I guess its just a political message of socialist/communist brotherhood, nothing much, since the U.S normalised relations with Cuba Yesterday. So nothing important/Valuable on this news.

Good move by Vietnam. No reason why socialist countries must remain disunited while the West stands as a historical bloc to subdue everybody else and craft them into their own image.

loool You think Vietnam is united with any socialist/commie bloc?loool Nope, not at all bro. In fact there is nothing like socialist countries/bloc today per se, unlike Western bloc. In fact the only true communist country today is Cuba.:agree::D

Just power up the power of willing
It makes me remember the day I was a kid in the primary school . We often donated money to support our Cuban friends. Just a price of a small candy

How's about N.Korea  ?

symbolic move. I bet defence cooperation with the Cubans means we invite them to pho eating, while they give us some of their best cigars.

Very true, all the others are just a combination of capitalism and a corrupted state bureaucracy functioning under the skeleton of a so called communist party. N. Korea became a dynasty.

Cuba truly is the only one left.

Not much information abt Cuba bro in VN now, but we still keep good friendship as usual. 'A friend indeed is a friend in need'. Cuba is a forever brother.:)
