Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal (Urdu: محمد اقبال; November 9, 1877-April 21, 1938) was a Muslim poet, philosopher and politician born in Sialkot, British India (now in Pakistan), whose poetry in Urdu, Arabic and Persian is considered to be among the greatest of the modern era,and whose vision of an independent state for the Muslims of British India was to inspire the creation of Pakistan. He is commonly referred to as Allama Iqbal (علامہ اقبال‎, Allama meaning "Scholar".)
Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal was born in Sialkot, Punjab, British India (now part of Pakistan); the eldest of five siblings in a Kashmiri family. After studying in England and Germany, Iqbal established a law practice, but concentrated primarily on writing scholarly works on politics, economics, history, philosophy and religion.
One of the most prominent leaders of the All India Muslim League, Iqbal encouraged the creation of a "state in northwestern British India for Muslims" in his 1930 presidential address. Iqbal encouraged and worked closely with Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and he is known as Muffakir-e-Pakistan ("The Thinker of Pakistan"), Shair-e-Mashriq ("The Poet of the East"), and Hakeem-ul-Ummat ("The Sage of Ummah"). He is officially recognised as the "national poet" in Pakistan. The anniversary of his birth (یوم ولادت محمد اقبال‎ - Yōm-e Welādat-e Muḥammad Iqbāl) on November 9 is a holiday in Pakistan. Allama Iqbal died in Lahore on April 21, 1938.

Translation and Transliteration

Khudi ka sirr-e-nihaaN La ilaha il Allah
khudi hai tegh-e-fasaaN La ilaha il Allah

The secret of the Self is hid, In words "No god but He alone".
The Self is just a dull-edged sword, "No god but He," the grinding stone.

Yeh daur apne 'Braaheem ki talaash mein hai
Sanam-kadah hai jahaaN La ilaha il Allah

An Abraham by the age is sought To break the idols of this Hall:
The avowal of God's Oneness can Make all these idols headlong fall.

Kiya hai tu ne mataa'-e-gharoor ka sauda
fareb-e-sood-o-ziyaaN ! La ilaha il Allah

A bargain you have struck for goods Of life, a step, that smacks conceit,
All save the Call "No god but He" Is merely fraught with fraud and deceit.

Yeh maal o dawlat-e-dunya, yeh ristha o paivand
butaan-e-vehm-o-gumaaN! La ilaha il Allah

The worldly wealth and riches too, Ties of blood and friends a dream
The idols wrought by doubts untrue, All save God's Oneness empty seem.

Khird huwee hai zamaan o makaan ki zunaari
na hai zamaaN, na makaaN! La ilaha il Allah

The mind has worn the holy thread Of Time and Space like pagans all
Though Time and Space both illusive "No god but He" is true withal.

Yeh naghma fasl-e-gul o laaleh ka nahin paband
bahaar ho ke khizaaN, La ilaha il Allah

These melodious songs are not confined To Time when rose and tulip bloom
Whatever the season of year be "No god but He" must ring till doom.

Agarche but hain jama'at ki aasteenoN mein
mujhe hai hukm-e-azaaN, La ilaha il Allah

Many idols are still concealed' In their sleeves by the Faithful Fold,
I am ordained by Mighty God To raise the call and be much bold.

Lab pe aati hai dua banke tamanna meri
Zindagi shama ki surat ho khudaya meri

Door duniya ka mere dam andhera no jaaye

Nek jo raah ho us raah pe chalaanaa mujhko

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

My longing comes to my lips as supplication of mine O God!
May like the candle be the life of mine!

May the world's darkness disappear through the life of mine!
May every place light up with the sparkling light of mine!

May my homeland through me attain elegance
As the garden through flowers attains elegance

May my life like that of the moth be, O Lord!
May I love the lamp of knowledge, O Lord!

May supportive of the poor my life's way be
May loving the old, the suffering my way be

O God! Protect me from the evil ways
Show me the path leading to the good ways

Ameen!!!!

Ya Rab Dil-e-Muslim Ko Woh Zinda Tamanna Dey
Jo Qalb Ko Garma Dey Jo Rooh Ko Tadpa Dey

Phir Vadi-e-FaraN Ke ,Har Zarray Ko Chamka Dey

Phir Shok-e-Tamasha Dey Phir Zoq-e-Taqaza Dey

Is Daur Ki Zulmat Main Har Qalb-e-PareshaN Ko
Woh Daag-e-Mohabbat Dey Jo Chaand Ko Sharma Dey

Mehroom-e-Tamasha Ko Phir Deeda-e-Beena Dey
Dekha Hai Jo Kuch Main nay Aoron Ko Bhi Dikhla Dey

Another great poetry written by Allama Iqbal being presented by Mehnaz.

Chishti ne jis zamin me paigam-I-haq sunaya
Nanak ne jis chaman me Wahdat ka git gaya
Tatarion ne jisko apna watan banaya
Jis ne hijazion se dasht-e-Arab chhuRaya,
Mera watan wohi hai, mera watan wohi hai.

Mera watan wohi hai, mera watan wohi hai.

meeer E Arab ko aai Thandi hawa jahan say
mera Watan wohi hai mera WataN woh hai.
-Iqbal

Interpretation

This is the land where Chishti preached the message of truth;
Where nanak sang the song of Unity of God;
Where the Tartars made their home.
And enabled the people of Hijaz to leave the deserts of Arabia.
This is my homeland, this is my homeland.

This country surprised the Greeks
And gave knowledge to the whole world;
God made its soil as rich as diamonds,
And it gave to the world priceless treasures,
This is my homeland, this is my homeland.

Another great poetry written by Allama Iqbal being presented by Shaukat Ali.

Nigah-e-Faqr main shan-e-sikandari kya hai
What is the worth of kingdom in eyes of a saint?
Khiraj ki jo gada ho, wo qeseri kya hai
Such a rule in which ruler is always worried about keeping it secure, is worthless
Nature has awarded ruling to those
Khabar nahin rawish-e-banda parwari kya hai?
who don't have sense of serving humanity
Nigah-e-faqr main shaan-e-sikandari kya hai?
What is the worth of kingdom in eyes of a saint?
Faqat Nigah se hota hai Faisla dil ka
Only sight decides about the destiny of heart
Na ho Nigah mein shokhi, to dilbari kya hai
If sight has no enthrallment, love is worthless
Nigah-e-faqr main shaan-e-sikandari kya hai?
What is the worth of kingdom in eyes of a saint?
Kissey nahin hai tamanna-e-sarwari lekin
There is no one who doesn't have desire of ruling?
Khudi ki mout ho jis main, wo sarwari kya hai?
Such ruling which self respect is required to be sacrificed has no value
Buton say tujh ko umeedain, Khuda say no meedi
You have Expectations from idols (referring to fellow human beings here) Mujhey bata tou sahi aur kaafri kya hai?
Then what is skepticism

Zamanay Ke Andaaz Badle Gaye
Naya Raag Hai Saaz Badle Gaye

Khirad Ko Ghulami Se Aazad Kar
Jawanon Ko Peeron Ka Ustad Kar

Jigar Say Wohi Teer Phir Paar Kar
Tamanna Ko Seenon Main Bedaar Kar

Jawanon Ko Sozi Jigar Bakhsh De
Mera Ishq Meri Nazar Bakhsh De

Pila De Mujhe Woh May Pardah Soz
Keh Aati Nahin Fasl-e-gul Roz Roz

Woh May Jis Se Roshan Hai Zameer-e-hayaat
Woh May Jis Se Hai Mastee-e-kainaat

Ek or qita by sir doctor Mohammad Iqbal.

Andow upon you will with such power
That at every turn of fate it so be
That God Himself asks of His slave
'What is it that pleases thee?'

In man's crusade of life these weapons has he:
Conviction that his cause is just;
Resolution to strive till eternity;
Compassion that embraces all humanity

Think of thy country, O thoughtless! Trouble is brewing,
In heavens there are designs for thy ruin.
See that which is happening and that which is to happen,
What is there in the stories of olden times?
If you fail to understand this, you will be exterminated, O people of Pakistan
Even your story will not be preserved in the annals of the world!
