If PAF won air war in 65 against IAF, what was PAF doing when Indian army was baking pakistani tanks?
PAF's No 14 Squadron was busy chopping off tails of the IAF in Eastern sector while No 19 and other units were doing an equal good job on the head in the Western theatre.....however albeit PAF destroyed hundreds of Indian armour but in some cases, Indians would abandon their tanks and guns and run with their tail between legs rather than getting toasted.

6 pounder guns! Seriously. WW2 vintage abandoned for lack of ammunition (read the Chamb reports) and you consider this a crowning glory?

You failed to take Srinagar. Period. Mission Failed.

Do you know why Chamb was attacked? To cut the highway to Srinagar. And yet the highway remained in Indian hands. In fact PA could not launch a successful bridgehead on this side of the town of Chamb either. And then came the Indian attack on Lahore and Sialkot and the 1st Pak Armoured division became history.

Read your stuff man, you made the same tactical errors in 71 as well. A lightening thrust can be successful only if you have solid defenses elsewhere to offset a thinning of other sectors. Indian forces penetrated upto Chawinda in Sialkot sector in a week and Ichogil in the Lahore sector as well.

No orders - and I repeat - no order ever came from the Indian HQ to proceed further, and secure further bridgeheads. At Chawinda you won a defensive battle that should be a greater source of pride.
But no - let's remember the meaningless defense of Lahore. Especially when Indian units made NO SERIOUS attempt to bridge it. Chowdhury was almost court martialled for not talking the initiative. We should have pressed forward, in retrospect, in the Lahore sector.

So what did Islamabad do? Sent the reserves from Lahore to Sialkot where the Indian 1st Armored Division took a beating. Indian commanders gave up the initiative from the third week of the war to limit casualties (because of impending ceasefire). Had a more concerted effort been made, Pakistan would be been much more damaged (as it would experience less than 6 years later)

Please read and learn - at least from the memoirs from your own army officers. They mention these as well.

By the way Barkee is just next to Indian border and is part of Lahore district and not Lahore city.

Another great "victory". Cheers.

Yes every thing Pakistan captures is abandon for a reason......we heard all that when your Gnat surrendered...did IA bring these guns to the front for an auction or in error.

I was not asking for a rhetoric. My question was simple. No 14 and No 19 squadrons of the mighty PAF chopped off IAF tails and still Indian army went on to capture Lahore!? Before you say pakistan captured khem karn, keep in mind that at the end of the war, 50 kms of Indian territory was lost to pakistan and India gained 360 kms.

Moreover, khem karn was won back from you in war and Lahore was given back. If you consider that as victory, then .

@Oscar, @Horus, kindly look into this thread as pictures from Bharat Ratsh** are being reproduced here.. thus promoting other site......which is against forum rules.

India made one major tactical and strategic mistakes -

Tactical: Giving up the initiative to take Lahore. No order was issued to take Lahore. The reporters were brought in and pictures taken in full view after Ichogil was reached. There was no Pakistani retaliation from the rag tag reserves (even the police was sent). The GHQ issued orders stating that only if the Indians cross the canal will a major counterattack be launched. Which we never did, except for a half hearted attempt that failed because of lack of coordination!

The call for having a peg in the Lahore Gymkhana was a battle cry to improve morale. Like the Pak armored forces said they will have breakfast in Jaisalmir, lunch in Jaipur and dinner in Delhi. No orders were issued to take Delhi either. These are morale boosters and nothing else.

Strategic - Giving up Haji Pir pass even when Pakistan did not ask for it!

When victories are all made up and bogus you make such mistakes. Giving up Haji Pir pass is practical example of it. You gave it back to get back land around Akhnoor.

An uneasy truce prevails after the cease-fire enforced at the demand of the UN Security Council. The continuing infiltration and the threatening speeches of Pakistani leaders have made the situation explosive in several sectors, and as Prime Minister Shastri has observed, the dawn of peace has yet to arrive. In this photograph, taken after the cease fire, Indian troops are seen at Dograi village on the Ichhogil Canal, Lahore with their booty of Pakistani ammunition and armour seized in a battle

Incorrect. Akhnoor was never taken by PA. Akhnoor was the tactical objective of the PA. Had they taken it, the only highway to Srinagar would have been severed. Check the map - again.
