Very sad situation in pakistan due to inflation

Good discussion.

Take the expat out of the equation here. Think from a local investor perspective running a factory. He/She produces goods and focuses on eventually providing import substitution and value addition. Has to deal with X number of government institutions to get permission, licenses, audit, tax done. Add to it the work to get the whole supply chain and managing resources.

And on the other end of the spectrum, you have investors flipping properties with virtually no tax. Even the transaction fee payable is 1/10 of the real value. There is no headache of dealing with government institutions. No source of income and most of the business is in black through hawala hundi.

The DHA, Naval Societies, KDAs, Bahrias have been going on for a good 3-4 decades. Both expats and local investors have been investing in plots since time immemorial. The side effects unfortunately are that the money is parked into plots and not into research or value addition.

This trends need to be reversed. One doesn’t need to be a rocket scientist to enact policies to incentivise industries and disincentivise property investments.

Sometimes I wonder, is it really Pakistan's situation so bad or only PDF is biased to such an extent that it is being presented about your own nation in such a way.

In general, most of the world's economies are not doing so great since COVID. Globally most of the world's economies are not doing well. Even last year, Srilanka was in a very bad situation but they are on the path of recovery..At least Pakistan is not in such kind of worst situation till now. Even your friend Turkey has very high inflation and their currency is getting devalued for a couple of years, but they are not in such a doom and gloom scenario in the way Pakistani people are presenting themselves in the media.

One thing is for sure, corruption is a factor that hinders the growth of a nation. But does that mean, all the western nations and their leaders are not all very clean and noncorrupt?

It would be great to see if any knowledgeable member can really contribute to the economical situation and the patch forward by adhering to the data wrt to the economy only.

I was listening to one of the vlogs of Ejaz Haider and Moeed Yusuf in Youtube. He nicely articulated his thought process without getting into the nitty gritty of the political angle.
It is strange you have to ask that question when facts and figures are all in open. Simple facts: Pakistan has the fifth largest population in the world at 230 million. However, it does not have enough exports to import enough basics i.e., food, fuel medicines etc. Then there is almost infinite amount of debt, foreign and domestic. Pakistan, never in its history, has paid 1 dollar back without immediately borrowing 2 dollars. Then you add infinite corruption, total lack of governance, low grade militancy, climate change and other natural crises. Does this sound like an exaggeration? Basic problem of arithmetic: at least $25 billion are needed per year for foreseeable future to just survive. No one knows where that will come from.

This forum isn’t representative of what situation in Pakistan is actually like. This is why this forum curses Pakistanis for not sacrificing their lives to start riots to bring PTI back to power.

sad man

How come this didn't apply to Singapore or HK? Hexk even Malaysia or Singapore for that matter
A certain system was left behind that was productive and stable, probably was partially owned by British business interests, partially by descendants of Chinese businesspeople that had strong association to protect their effort.

But I agree, the stable and prosperous examples should be studied. There is also the example of India and why its systems didn’t go the way Pakistan did. Perhaps some of that has to do with Nehru living 20 years after independence, while Jinnah only lived for a little over a year post independence and the first prime minister being assassinated within 4 years of independence.

Another few example of full independence poverty versus still being owned by basically the colonists and the colonizers business interests is Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Cuba also was like the Dominican Republic, but once Castro took over, it was cutoff, and lived off of Soviet aid for 4 decades.

Hong Kong started out similar to the South Asian example, but it only “decolonized” in 1997 and was handed over to another large economy. No real period of independence and only local ownership of all businesses.

In the PRC, the faction that Deng led, displaced the Mao faction after his death, and realized the country could not continue as is, with a potentially hostile Soviet Union on their border and many prosperous Asian tiger economies all around them. So for the survival of the party I suspect was the key reason to open china up to foreign investment.

Absolutely rubbish.

Both one and two child policies failed miserably all across the world. China even abandoned it.

UN based Scientific research states average family size HAS to be greater than 3 kids in a family in order for a country to sustain a healthy economic growth.

The Quranic teachings encourage us to have bigger families, more kids, in fact kids are considered RIZQ.

Its not a one child policy that causes lack of resources, rather it is unequal distribution of wealth in society that causes all sorts of disparities.

Economic inequalities usually result from institutionalized social and political injustice. Pakistan is a perfect example, where very few people pay taxes due to corrupt elite capture of the state institutions.
Wow you really think like Bamsi LOL

Unlike China, I don't propose we impose one child or two child policy for long term where its in the minus. Considering we have an abnormally large growth rate, it should be controlled and treated as an emergency in the SHORT TERM for at least next 10-20 years.

Its common sense. The land our people live on can offer limited resources. In this regard, Baloch are absolutely right when they say Punjab consumes all their gas. Moreover, our land area is not as big as Canada, Russia, and United States. As population increases, our people would need more homes, more roads, more energy projects and other infrastructure fulfillments all of which impact size of a predominantly agriculture land.

Decades ago, water was never an issue and now we find ourselves in the position of water wars with India. If I'm from Kashmir, I would want to advocate to be independent asap and not find both India and Pakistan stealing my water due to their population demand.

We have to decide what our model is. Do we want to end up like India which has a great economic growth rate but yet a growing population, or do we want a better quality of life like South Korea, Malaysia and Turkiye. If we are smart, we would chose the latter. We want our people to eat well (3x a day), get quality education with less burdened administration and less competition and not go through issues like immigration and unemployment.

If there is any social injustice, its by the religious community. Women who represent 50% of the population are prevented from contributing to country's economic progress and in the fold of tax net because in their mind, we need more "muslims" as if there aren't enough already lol
