What's new

Venezuela buying J-10 jets

They should invest in SAM systems, that'll be cheap and effective.

:pop: Too close to Venezuela from USA. Chinese govt did not dare to sell missiles to Chavez. Otherwise, Uncle Sam will be angry.
If Uncle Sam was selling missiles to Taiwan, Chinese govt will be a headache.

SAMs are defensive, not offensive as USSR did with Cuba. US govt. shouldn't have any problem with China selling SAMs to Venezuela.

^^ but that's obviously far from enough. Senoritas asked Hugo for J-10.

At least wait until the deal follows through before speculating... It's hard to imagine any country outside Pakistan which would be interested in largely untested Chinese planes.

Beleive it or not, SAM are more politically sensitive than fighters. SAM are only good for shooting down airplanes in all-out wars (obviously with US in mind), whereas fighters can be bought under the pretext of internal security (intercepting drug smugglers, fighting insurgents).

Then broaden your imagination man.

Planes such as Rafale, Eurofighter serve no purpose as they are useless when he realy needs to use them.

If Chavez doesn't want to be boycotted, J-10 is pretty much the only choice out there.

"Untested " is such a funny buzzword.

Do you think F-22A was tested? against whom? Russian or CHina air defence?

Do you think EF was tested?

--yeah right, in some fierce battles against some post WWII Banana Republic Airforces...

And Rafale was tested?

--yeah right, it blew up some state-of-art Libya jets into pieces...

Unfortunately Chavez will have to need weaponry when he murders his own people after he suspends democracy. Caracas is the most dangerous city in the world and the average Venezuelan is far poorer than before. Fortunately for him the chinese are more than willing to help him

The vast majority of his weapons are Russia. Save yer whining for those guys.

:coffee: You will soon see J-10 in service in Serbia.

guy, i don't care if you under-estimate CAF. but you really under-estimate PAF. from my perspective, PAF is strong. they are well trained and experienced. man is the key, you know. say, Iraq equipped with F16, U.S equipped with same F16, which side will win given they have same Radar, number of Jets... ?

PAF will refuse J10 if it's weak. They didn't take J8 because they thought it is not the plane they wanted.

btw, what is the criteria of "tested"/"untested"? it is F16/F15 only?
Su27/30/35 are "tested" or "untested"?
